Well, so people who stays out in the wilds for more than three hours from the nearest socket will have an option. An oficial option, which is good. Just wonder how it will plug with the PSV. And yes, probably will be expensive, which is a shame.
Hopefully Sony won't make it too expensive,but the expensive memory card is not a good sign.

So it's twice as big as the internal one. I still wish they let you swap the battery out at your own discretion; that's one of the main reasons why I can't stand iOS devices.
For comparison, the psp's battery is a 1200mAh and cost about $20, this tells you how juice hungry this beast is.
Ooooooooooooh. If I do get a Vita, I would get this if the price is under $40. It may seem anti-potable, but I mostly play on a table or on a bed so it won't bother me too much unlike sitting in a bus.

Yeah, because you can't already buy better 3rd Party battery's for the 3DS right now. Ones that actually clip onto the bottom of the system, instead of having to carry around, a extra external battery with you. That really sound portable to me!

The 3-5 hour Vita battery benchmark was set with WiFi off, 3G off, Bluetooth off, external speakers off (headphones, really?), and brightness set to default. So needless to say your going to need one of these, and one of the over-priced proprietary memory cards as well.
Um, shouldn't the Vita have been DESIGNED with such a good battery? Why are there no Destructoid "Vitabatterymageddon" articles going up every 3 seconds?

Probably because the vita is being sold at a loss and is overall designed better. We have no idea what the size of the thing will be so it might not have been able to fit into the vita or it may have gotten to hot. No frickin clue but it's not really comparable to a control scheme. You guys are sort of grasping at straws.

So if they have a battery expansion ready, why don' they just have it built in? The systems not even out yet, they have time. I mean they have 3 different Vita models at launch, why don't they just include one model that's slightly thicker with the better battery. I'm sure some people would gladly pay more for a slightly bigger model that has an increased battery life, considering how big of a deal so many people have made over battery life.
I'm not complaining, I'm just saying if they have the technology before the system launches why not just do it? Sony has a ripe opportunity right now. External battery extenders don't matter because the 3DS has those too. This is an easy push they could do to gain a larger audience.

Actually I like it like this, I don't prefer the clip on extra battery. cause clip on will never have 5000 mAh .

Yea it's unknown what it might look like. Adding another sku might have been a little confusing for consumers.It could also be cooling issues.
I'm sure the Vita will be compatible with those $20+ USB recharging battery packs that are compatible with anything USB powered.

I wouldn't worry too much about the proprietary memory. My memory sticks are third party, I'm sure they'll have third party version of this one....the question is "when?"
Yeah why would they bother putting in a decent battery when they know people will happily pay for their "mistakes".
There is a limit to how small these Lithium battery cells can be. That's why you simply cannot cram a 3000mAh battery into the same dimensions as a 1700mAh battery. So the Vita would have to be thicker for such a battery to fit.
Of course there are also financial reasons at play here. A thicker Vita with a beefier battery would be more expensive to produce, and it's way more lucrative to supply an aftermarket high capacity battery kit.
Personally, I wouldn't mind a thicker Vita to support a heftier battery from the start, it's not like I can fit it in my pocket anyway. But the general public likes their gadgets slim, or at least that's the push most manufacturers are making. But it seems that current-technology batteries just can't keep up with this.

As far as the expensive memory cards, I never understood buying the expensive ones -- Just buy the cheapest one and back stuff up to your PC when you run out of room. Your hard drive IS the memory card.
It's nice to have the option to get some additional battery life.
