I was thinking about getting a third controller for one of my homies, I all ready have two, but I need 3. I will just use this instead! This is beyond awesome! This is why I love Sony :3 hehe
And I'm not sure if buying a PS3 and a Vita will be much more than buying a WiiU. PS3 and Vita is $550, I guess we will have to see how much the WiiU is. :O
But back on topic, this is really great news :)
This one though, day 1 indeed
Also the PS Vita user interface is butt-ugly
The thing is I bet a lot of the 3rd party efforts on the WiiU are gonna be multiplats where they just add functionality for the WiiU controller.
That being said it should be pretty easy to add that same functionality to the vita and Ps3 as it'll be cheaper being already developed for the WiiU.
For example I'm sure Batman AC for the WiiU will have the touch screen controller support and when the wiiu version is finally completed maybe they can take that new stuff and just patch it into the ps3 for vita functionality, saves a lot of monay and makes more sense when your developing it for 2 consoles at once.
As long as the wiiu is close in power and capabilities of the ps3 and the wiiu controller and vita are capable of the same functionality I can see them sharing a lot of similar experiences with their games and it kinda takes the edge the wiiu had on the competition with multiplats if u have a vita!
Anyway a neat extra I guess but we'll have to see how many third party games use the feature. Not everyone that has a PS3 will have a Vita after all so it may seem unnecessary to add this in.
Capitalizing on the current install base of PS3 owners who are skeptical of the 3DS and WiiU is a brilliant plan. Especially if some of those indie dev's that have been gifted Vita dev units start bringing their games over to the device as well.
People that already own a PS3 have raging boners for the Vita so I consider the cost of entry $250 to be null. I am not buying the Vita to replace the Wii-U, I want a handheld device and being able to do what the Wii-U can do it icing on the cake.
COCAINE ICING!
Seriously though, this is BAD news for the Wii-U as everything Nintendo showed us will be doable much sooner. Is it safe to say the Wii-U is already behind the times?
Buying a vita and a Ps3 is required for the basic ideas and concepts of just buying a Wii-U.
The Vita has a back touchscreen that can work as L2 R2 buttons in a sense as well as different component for the front touch screen.
The Wii-U has an unique Controller lay-out something that's familiar but has a visual appeal that can make Veteran Gamers uncomfortable.
Plus these are mildly two different companies, people who would want that innovation for Nintendo games may not want it for First party Sony games.
Nintendo is going to tie together the Hardcore, the Causal, and anyone inbetween or out of the picture towards the Wii-U.
Sony could double up game and system sales if they do this right.
If Sony doesn't screw this up, this functionality could really be a serious threat to the WiiU. I wouldn't mind using my Vita as a controller. Wouldn't be too much of a difference.
Wii U can instantly switch between TV and controller screen and more over user can modify HUD and what is visible on the TV's and controller's screen however he likes. let's not forget ability to run to games at the same time. not to mention the fact Wii U's controller can work with wii remote and other accesories.
PS Vita does what PSP did and nothing more, but now with different control schemes.
Pretty damn sure all first party content will use these WiiU type enhancements. And Sony is going all out in that category as well (Sucker Punch buyout). My anticipation for this device is reaching unsafe levels.
And developers will think the same thing they think with move: not everybody has it.
I am starting to think that Sony throws into its consoles everything they have. Gyroscope in, touchpad in, touchscreen in, connection with ps3 in, laser of death in...
As for the Wii-U, While the idea is cool and all, that controller looks way to unwieldy to be even remotely enjoyable.
