Sony, Polyphony Digital and Nissan have been hosting an amazing competition called GT Academy. The contest, which centers around racing game Gran Turismo 5, will give one person the opportunity of a lifetime to become a professional race car driver. Over 53,000 Gran Turismo 5 players participated in Round 1 of the online tournament. The National Finals event in Orlando, Florida, just finished up, and now the top 16 players in the country are now on their way to Silverstone racing circuit in England for the final stage of the competition.
I would have given my left lug nut to be a part of this.
Those final 16 will participate in a week-long boot camp in June. The top driver from there will become the official GT Academy winner for the U.S. and will have the opportunity to train with elite race car drivers and compete as part of a professional Nissan racing team in an undisclosed race.
Awesome. So awesome.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
