And while we're on the subject, I <3 PS+. Best deal in gaming (other than Steam, I suppose but it's hard to compete with $5 Dead Space).
Sony: Let's give people a bunch of free games and discounts and shit on PS+ for the $50 a year they pay us.
I may have had an easier time connecting to games with my friends on Live when I used my 360, but I've been far happier with PS+ and all the awesome free shit they give me.
Great selection though. Part of me wishes I didn't already own Symphony of the Night but I don't own Chronicles so that's awesome. I've had my eye on Trine 2 for a while so sweet. Also, Awesomenauts and Rock of Ages I'll pick up definitely.
I wish Sonic 4: Episode 2 was offered for free as well when it arrives but maybe I'm asking for too much. Great list though.
As an actual free PSN user, I am more than happy with sony's service. Barring that freak month when the service was down, it has been very good and actually free, a notable difference to it's Microsoft counterpart.
The headline states "Playstation Plus is getting free stuff". Playstation Plus implies a purchase.
There's no need to be redundant and say "Playstation Plus nets you free stuff -- provided you bought a PS3, provided you bought Playstation Plus, provided you also bought a controller, and internet to hook it up". Likewise, there's no reason to arbitrarily break down each game and say "this earns you $3 back on your PS+ investment". The "phrasing of the article" is based off an obvious implication.
Sony has previously stated since the inception of PS+ that you have to keep your subscription current to play free PS+ games.
On the plus side, if you're about to run out, you can always "buy/attach" them when you have PS+, to save for your renewal date, and games bought at a "+ discount" are still yours.
The games that I have gotten free through the service and are permanant are Shank 2, Trine 2, Simpsons Arcade Game, Voodoo Dice, Costume Quest, Plants Vs. Zombies, Castle Crashers, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, MTG Duels of the Planeswalkers, Stacking, Sam & Max: The Devils Plauhouse Eps 1-5 and Critter Crunch.
I have another folder on my XMB were I put the stuff that does expire, currently has 60 games in it. I cannot begin to state what a good value proposition I have found the service to be, and how utterly terrible XBL Gold's value seems in comparison. The more I think about it, the more and more angry I get about XBL Gold.
Good call - forgot about the "info" determination - although I've noticed that nearly all of my content has an expiration date, it doesn't hurt to check.
I'm just keeping my PS+ subscription for the foreseeable future, because I've gotten more than my money's worth.
Actually I'd say that for folks who have been subscribed to PS+ since the beginning these games are free in that my initial $60 investment has been thoroughly repaid. Even after signing up for the second year I would consider my PS+ purchase fully reimbursed in content.
And Favian, some of the games are meant to be non-subscription based games. Stacking and Sam & Max are examples of that where the full game was released to PS+ members for free but is considered a "purchased" item and therefore not subject to the membership expiration clause. Yet another reason I'll continue to support Sony and Plus.
But even that doesn't work 100% every time, and I hardly use it nowadays anyways. PS+, I do believe, has won me over, and Microsoft is going to have to present some pretty compelling reasons to fork them Live cash in the next few months to keep me as a customer.
though if PS+ were to make prices like steam then consider me your forever subscriptioner :P
All of which I can live with.. Lol.
I'd keep it you're the beta access alone, the free games are just an awesome bonus!
