PlayStation Network Update: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue edition photo

Sony was working on the back end for the launch of the new PlayStation Store, and that held up releases on the PlayStation Network for a bit. But now it looks like we're back in business, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is leading the pack.

Finally, the "intense precursor to Gran Turismo 5" is here, and it will set you back almost 40 bones. Some are calling Gran Turismo 5 Prologue "just a demo," but it's pretty robust (and expensive) to be just a demo. You get over 60 vehicles, a new dash view, and up to 16-person multiplayer online action in this 1.78 GB download.

And that's it this week for downloadable games, and there's only one demo: UEFA EURO 2008 (988mb). What? No PSOne titles after our two week wait?

There is plenty of add-on game content this week. Warhawk has the "Operation: Broken Mirror" booster pack (131mb, $7.99), or the Booster Combo, which adds “Operation: Omega Dawn" for four more dollars. Super Stardust HD Solo ($4.99) gives Stardust HD some solo action -- make sure you have the original before you download this. And then there's the free Lair control update we told you about earlier (245mb).

Of course, there's a ton of Rock Band songs to download. I thought it was funny that, when polled, 80% of the Attack of the Show audience says they don't buy any Rock Band songs. Who's buying this stuff? Is it just Nick Chester? I'm sure everyone will nab the free Jonathan Coulton "Still Alive" song.

This week's videos:

  • Warhawk Broken Mirror Trailer
  • Condemned 2: Bloodshot Making Of The TV Spot
  • HAZE Mantel Corporate Vision
  • This is Vegas Annoucement Trailer
  • GT5 Prologue Friendly Fires Video
  • GT5 Prologue Beyond the Apex Trailer
  • Pineapple Express (movie trailer)
Are you getting Prologue this week? If so, are you getting the download or the disc?

Definitely picking up GT. Definitely getting it on Disc. For 40 bucks, I want the satisfaction of a physical product. Also as I have but a 40GB PS3, I really don't want to chew up any more space than necessary.

I've got my hardcopy some time ago (Europe got some love finally). It's so damn beautiful, I also love the way it plays. It's worth your 40 bucks.

I still don't get the fuss over "Still Alive". I downloaded it for free, because of that very reason, but I didn't even like it in Portal. Seriously, why does everyone have an orgasm over it?

Oh. And Fuck yeah Simple Man! Awesome to play on guitar.

i just rented GT Prologue and yes it's a good sized demo.the graphics are as expected "simply stunning". i don't play many driving games but i may look into getting a nice driving wheel when the full version comes out cause this game looks and feels that good.

Waiting on the full version of Turismo. Watch the Pineapple Express trailer, a stoner commedy/action movie by Apetow staring Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Amber Heard(hottie), looks hilarious.

@Takeshi: Glad to hear it. My d/l is at about 85%.

I wasn't going to get it, read the top few hits on Metacritic, and caved. It seems like Forza 2 would be pretty hard to top. Own Forza 2 but haven't played in a long time.

Not a huge sim fan, but I'm a WRX owner because of GT. If the cars feel great I'll be happy.

Well, my update keeps timing out. This is the longest it's gotten('bout 1/3). If it fails again I'm just gonna play and worry about it later.

You can't actually make private races can you?

Oh! it's almost half done! *jinxes it*

Rockefellow: we're new best friends. I think "still alive" is a horrible song.

I have been wondering, does the downloaded version of Warhawk have quicker load times than the disc version?

I just think that it should be so. If so then GT should be the same. It may make a difference.

I'm getting neither. My standards are too high to pay $40 for a demo. (except I did pay $60 for a Halo 3 Beta) Shit, my only reason for not buying the game went to hell.

This was quite a substantial update, and it’s good to see some new content back on the store. I downloaded most of the new videos, as well as some Rock Band DLC, and this revamped store interface is fucking fantastic. I feel like I was able to do what I did in half the time.

@poonster:
I'm definitely getting a driving wheel as well.
This one from Logitech seems to be calling out to me to spend entirely too much money on it.

If my TV is in today I will be picking up GranTurismo for it as I think it will be a great game for showing off Hi-def and it should be fun as well..lol

It'll be interesting to see the breakdown of how many people buy the disc vs. download of GT5 Prologue.
