Today Sony announces PlayStation Network PLAY, a new promo line-up for four summer action titles. Summer, huh? That makes me think of another summertime promotion from another company. Anyway, the games within PSN PLAY are:
- Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition (August 23)
- The Baconing (August 30)
- Bloodrayne: Betrayal (September 6)
- Renegade Ops (September 13)
All four games will be priced at $14.99 each.
As a bonus gift, those that purchase all four PLAY titles in the PlayStation Store will receive a voucher code for Sony Online Entertainment's PAYDAY: The Heist. Totally free.
With each pre-order from the PLAY program made, you will receive a PS3 theme. PLAY also offers gamers a separate gift with each purchase, and we hear that it's DLC for each game. If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber you will receive an automatic 20% off every PLAY title.
Pre-orders for PSN PLAY start August 9.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

*Buys $70 worth of PSN cards*
They should give us some money back...
Everything else looks noice.
dang. This seems like a proper use of 60 bucks... 48 bucks...
hmm!
adding the word Payday to The Heist doesn't change the fact that Sony Online Entertainment was never the developer of this game. more over from the looks of it, it's the exact same game without any alterations. if anyone is interested go look up Bank Heist gameplay videos on youtube.
if this isn't a warning for other independent developers who think they can work with sony i don't know what is. original development team of the game isn't even mentioned by sony - for fuck's sake they made entire game for you!
... are they getting paid though?
All that is left to do after pre-ordering that which has no chance of running out of stock is to eagerly await Microsoft's counter-offer if they have one.
ah well. 3 bangers for $36. Not bad at all!
Man just buy a PS3 already. Your jealousy is getting irritating.
Back on topic.. I planned on buying all of these titles eventually,so the extra's plus free game is a win.
doesn't change the fact that we're talking about small development studio that created entire game and probably when they were making that deal they thought they would make a mark in the industry and sony fucked them in the butt. the game was already in very advanced beta stage when it simply disappeared then like 6-7 months later Payday: The Heist is announced. when i first saw gameplay vids from that "game" it strikes me that i already have seen this game. the only difference between both versions are the textures on some of the elements of environment and weaponry models(even many sound samples are exactly the same).
considering they've made all the work for sony it would be nice to at least mention them.
@MCBattery that's Sony's dev team working on it now... not the original devs.
OT: Looks like a decent set of deals for summer!
except for the fact that Bank Heist was developed by Controlled Chaos Media creators of Texting of the Bread game.
found their site and it looks like not only Controlled Chaos still works on Bank Heist, Sony or that shitty developer stole the concept from those guys.
i remember how people were raging over fuckers who were ripping off other devs on appstore - apparently if it's done by sony it's completely ok.
how can Sony steal something that they bought? You know, don't bother to answer. I'm sure that your mind has constructed some delusional rational, but that doesn't work for the rest of us here in the real world.
Controlled Chaos CHOSE to sell their title, that was their decision, Sony hasn't ripped anyone off.
Keep on trying boyo, I can't see anyone taking you seriously any time soon so keep it up.
Boy you must enjoy dicks so much that you yourself have become a huge DICK. As others would say keep sticking that ugly ass green dildo up your really loose ass. :P you love it. :)
If I'm a PS+ member, I can get 20% off of Third Strike, even if I don't buy these other games?
@Mizark
Another slander post regarding Xbox Live I see!
Yes. Xbox Live Gold members get discounts EVERY week - they have been basically since the 360 launched. They also run monthly specials for Gold members that discount around 15 games, from %10-%50. On a monthly basis, I see the exact same amount of discounting on my PS Plus account AND my Xbox Live Gold account.
Slander, I tell you!
Why is it bad that the games are non-exclusive? Does that make them less fun?
Sony is trying to replicate the success of Xbox Live's Summer of Arcade, with their own multi-game promotion. The only problem is, the entire point of the Summer of Arcade is exclusivity, to drive profits. For the past few months (and apparently a few more to come), outside of a few Minis (many of which that are already on iOS), nothing has been exclusive to the PSN.
Sony isn't doing a good job as of late when it comes to winning anyone over with the PSN. I mentioned the non-exclusivity for the same reason Jim complains about the eShop - it could be a lot better - they just don't feel like improving it, apparently. If Sony wants to start being competitive, they should actually try and get original games, and take that shared revenue away from Microsoft.
This is a step in the right direction though: like I said above - at least they're trying.
Also, lol @ everyone getting butt-sensitive at sofik over Sony ripping off another idea from Microsoft.
sofik wasn't commenting on Play versus Summer of Arcade. He was saying that Sony ripped off the developers of The Heist.
i lurk on dtoid and rarely do i post. but sofik- go fucking hang yourself so we dont have to listen to all of the shit that comes out of your mouth.
stop trolling sony articles about things you know literally nothing about. you just make up shit for attention.
seek help
@SayWord: Implying I'm anything like sofik? Also, you forgot the part where I own a PS3 and have for almost 2 years. Besides, why dream about it when we can make it a reality? ;) ;) ;)
those 3 games should last a while
