What about a game like Ruin with multiple-platform transfarring? Will having Ruin on my PS3 and my Vita count as my two allowed copies? Or are those two separate games (the ps3 version and the Vita version)?

As long as the customer is allowed to deactivate any and all devices on the account whether or not they are in possession of said devices at the time, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

My mum and sis had their own individual PS3s and we used to share games as a family. I moved to the US recently and had to get another PS3.......well I'm selling it next week, as that's just crap.

Considering I actually KNOW people who abuse the system in precisely the same way mentioned above, I've gotta side with Sony on this one. "Well, I would've bought Dungeon Defenders, but Steve got it and the five of us are all just sharing his account."
Whine whine. This is entirely fair. In fact, it's more than fair, since it must be an absurd minority of owners that own more than one PS3 anyway.

If it was 3 consoles I would not mind. But 2 is stupid. Sony, there will be people (like me once PSVita releases) who will own a PS3, a PSP and a PSVita. And while I know not many people are anymor, I am using my PSP quite often.

I am not optimistic about this at all, I don't lend my account to my friends because we are into different things. If my PS3/360 broke, I would just hold onto the hard drive and reinstall it on my PS3 or just save the files on my computer. This just makes it so much more annoying. But yeah, it does not affect me but makes me sad to know that it's there.
Unfortunately, the process to deactivating said consoles is probably going to be the exact same as it was, which when I last used it required a proof of purchase for the system you wish to deactivate, which if your system was broken, stolen, etc you probably aren't going to keep if you even had it in the first place, the only time a proof of purchase should ever be necessary is when you wish to return something. The way it probably should work is when you add a system, and you're already maxed out on systems, it should delete the oldest system on your account and replace it with the new one. This would save money in customer support spent going through the steps to remove a system, and increase customer goodwill to Sony since they don't have to jump through any hoops to deactivate a system.

Well, see the difference between lending and having it on multiple devices is that one person will not be able to play it for that time period where as everyone can play it and keep it for as long as they want. Not saying I agree with the practice, just saying.
It's so easy to do that it's basically a form of piracy. I game-shared once, and then never did it again because I knew I hadn't bought this DLC myself.

It is a bit annoying to phone up customer services to deactivate all your accounts once you reach your limit (something they dont JUST do... you have to convince them??) but I was actually surprised when I first bought my PS3 to learn that I could share the games with other people. I really don't view this as unreasonable, I'm surprised that they kept the number at 5 for as long as they did. If it someone screwed people over who go through multiple systems I would be a bit outraged, but this just seems reasonable.

I don't really think its that big a deal. I mean, if you are sharing with four other people at once, then you are exploiting the system. Also, unlike barrowing games, the other people can essentially keep the same game at once, making it less 'barrowing' then 'giving it away.'

It depends on if you can deactivate and reactivate when needed. Otherwise, it sounds fair, and really no different than lending out a physical copy.

They're saying they will make it easier to deactivate accounts on consoles, and you will be able to do it online, on a computer. Works for me.
I'd say it was about damn time, to be honest. I wish they had done it before Capcom decided to do their DRM scheme with Bionic Commando 2 and that other game.

My friend has his own PS3, also his brother and his dad each have their own. So yes, there are legitimate uses & users using it legitimately.
In addition, I'm not sure consumer rights allow a company to tighten DRM after initial agreement. They can give you more activations but they can't take them away. In any case, this is fucked up. I have a PS3 & PSP bound to my account. Unless this restriction is set to each console type, I won't be able to bind the new Vita I'd get.

As someone who's gotten free DLC and shit on the PS3 from a friend in the past, I don't like this change. However, that friendship sort of ended, so I don't have access to that stuff anymore, anyways. So... it's a sucky change, but it no longer affects me.
Why not just have unlimited, but restrict it to one user. Game sharing was bullshit, and I never did it, but only self entitled ass holes think this wasn't a loophole that they themselves caused to be closed.
The people honestly hurt by this are multiple console holders if it works the way most of us are assuming. Psp, vita, ps3, I'll own all of them soon, and this might royally fuck me.

Well said and I think most people miss that aspect of PHYSICALLY giving someone a medium to use. See kids, the laws of physics prevent both parties to use the same disc in two places at once. With digital distribution, that's not an issue. 5 people can "borrow" the game and play simultaneous;y. In fact, if I bought and shared that PSN online FPS (domination something), me and 4 friends could all play online together, but the developers would only get 1 purchase. Hardly fair...

They're not taking anything away. You still get 5 activations for anything bought up until now. Only the games bought going forward are going to be limited to 2.

If they allow you to remotely remove a system online then I'm fine with it. I would suggest against the whole 2 systems at once thing though. I mean I already have a PS3 and a PSP and will eventually get a PSV because I'm a consumer whore but I don't want to have to deactivate my PSP just to use my PSN account on the PSV.

This is bullshit. What if my Playstations break? I wont be able to access the content that I payed for? If so, then why should I buy stuff from PSN? I should just stick to Steam.
This all comes down to whether or not I can deactivate consoles when they kick the bucket. Sony would have to be a special brand of moron to not let us deactivate the consoles if/when they break down.
It was Sony's idea to allow shared content on up to 5 consoles, they may see it as a mistake, but they promised a service. To limit it is to go back on that promise. Say I promised you $50, but later decided that I didn't trust you and decided to give you $20 instead, I'd be being dishonest and breaking my promise. I hate when people do this, they should just support their services until they no longer support their console. It'll only be a few more years until the PS4 anyway, so why couldn't they have just waited until then?

It sounds like the restriction is on devices of the same type. The way I understand it, you can have two PS3s, two PSPs, and two Vitas. Anyone else read it the same way?
Whew! It seems that it only applies to new content and isn't' retroactive. We have 2 PS3's in our house (my husband's and mine) and both died some time ago and got replaced with new units. We eventually got the old units fixed and I just gave one to my nephew for his birthday, complete with a bunch of PSN games on it.
I'm not sure how they're going to work this though as they state that "newly purchased content will be restricted to 2 machines"... yet we apparently we have to deactivate old machines and only have 2 units activated. Some games won't play on machines that aren't activated, so this may actually affect some existing older games that were shared.
I predict that this is going to be messy. Sony never does anything in a simple manner and there is going to be some whining and screaming and stamping of feet going on!

FYI - from someone who's had experience of "max active consoles" on PSN, It works like this....
You can currently have 5 consoles ACTIVATED on your account to use all your games. These can be DEACTIVATED at any time.
All this means for those with broken PS3's is that they need to DEACTIVATE the broken ones and ACTIVATE the new one. Job done.

Still better than Microsoft and their policy of being locked to the original console and gamertag that it was downloaded to bullshit. I've been saying that digital downloads are just a way for companies to stomp on consumer rights, so if you don't like it, don't support it.

As long as I have an option to reset which devices the software is on without actually having access to the device I'm fine with it. I only have the 1 PS3 anyways...

That said,even after after abusing the system myself, I really can't fault Sony,and especially the content owners for finally implementing this.
