PlayStation 3 Trophy issue to be addressed in this century, presumably photo

A game-breaking glitch involving Trophies on the PlayStation 3 will be receiving a patch. The problem (other than the glitch) is figuring out exactly when the fix will debut. Users have been making the error known to Sony since this fall.

According to a CVG report, the glitch appeared when users changed their account IDs or their passwords somewhere between firmware updates 2.50 and 2.53. It corrupts Trophy data, preventing synchronization to the profile. Some games don’t play nice with the problem and force the players to quit out of the title in an endless loop of error messages and restarts.

A Sony Europe representative recently told users on their official (but still European) message board that a “fix is on the way” but no timeframe has been set. In the meantime, Sony probably expects users to play Home -- the virtual equivalent of the physical activity of chewing broken glass.

Home is that bad? no surprise really. As for this trophy glitching that sucks as well.

Jeez, settle down there Brad. We're still playing games here. Nothing wrong with my PS3. You talk about this as if it's the new RROD.

...except playing Home wont get you into the Guiness Book of World Records, just waste a lot of your own time.

Actually, that's not a lot different from most of the stuff in the book anyway..

Using a picture of a British Airways plane crash while mentioning that it's Sony Europe's blog that announced a patch? Very clever!

I sure hope Sony gets a handle on this soon, if it's really causing folks to lose their trophy info. Growing pains are a bitch!

I guess I have been really lucky in that I haven't had a problem yet with my PS3 breaking down due to a firmware update. In fact I don't actually know of anyone who has. I am sure these people exist, but it seems that all of the PS3 issues I have heard of at this point are pretty isolated.

Pro Tip: Don't change your pass or id until they fix it. Also, you don't actually lose any trophies, your PSN ID just won't show them temporarily. Also, I didn't know you could change your psn id. Guess that'll be top on my to do list when they patch this.

Home forced my wife to abort her baby. I shall have my vengence. Oh wait, it's just frivolous and boring, it never hurt anyone.

Guess me not changing my password or ID has paid off.

FINALLY!

Nope, never had this problem.

Also, no need to bash Home in an unrelated article.

I never had this issue, but I tell what did happen to me: a couple of updates ago (can't remember which one), the update somehow deleted all of my GTAIV save data. I should probably have been outraged, but I was too busy with other games to to notice. It was pre-trophy save data, so I guess I'm not that bothered, but still - it's pretty appalling.

I'm not sure if it's a symptom of the problem, but after installing a new HD and leaving room for a Linux partition, My trophy data won't display.

It just says "No Trophies", however on my online ID, they're all there. Guess it's just a synchronization error, but it hasn't interfered with any of the game I play.

I haven't been hit by this yet thank god. However my cousin did have some issues like this on Dead Space. I believe his friend came over and loaded his saved game to play, then after he was done playing and earning a few trophies he put my cousins save data back only for my cousin to get this trophy error and the inability to play the game.
