Sony of Japan has announced that the 120GB HDD PlayStation 3 Slims are just not enough anymore. Starting July 29, PS3 Slims will now either come with a 160 GB HDD or a 320 GB HDD. The smaller end models will go for ¥29,980 (about $340) while the 320GB system will go for ¥34,980 (about $400).
Japan will be seeing a white colored PlayStation 3 Slim also coming out on July 29. The "Classic White" PS3 Slim model will only be available with a 160 GB HDD and will also run for the same price as the black colored version.
AndriaSang points out that all of the 120 GB models will go for open pricing starting tomorrow. This means that retailers in Japan can sell the old models for whatever price they want in order to clear shelves for the new systems.
No word on when or if these new PlayStation 3 Slims will be coming to US or European shores, but we'll update you as soon as we hear anything.

I have been waiting for this! My Wii and 360 are both white so having a white PS3 would please me greatly.
Also, interesting that they're upping the hard drive size. I've not heard a single complaint about running out of room, and I work at GameStop. If someone had something to complain about, believe me, they'd have said it.
I generally don't like white electronics. Black or silver is the way to go. My Wii is an eyesore next to all my other systems.

Also, that white is damn sexy.
But the PS3 alone looks really nice, prefer it over the black version. I own one of the older piano black versions, so I may go for this one some day.
White is nice though.
Ofcourse nobody needs to complain if you want more room you just stick in a laptop HDD.;)

I agree. It's like a white PC... you don't see many nowadays. Black seems to be the way to go.. and I'm not against the idea at all.
It seems you guys may have missed the key feature of this new CECH-2500 model... run it through Google Translate, and you get this:
"(Note) This product is a "PlayStation 2" We have special software compatible."
Also, mentioned a price drop on the older model:
"Prior to the launch of new models, July 7, 2010 (Wednesday) from the current 120GB model PS3 ® (CECH-2100A series) opening price will change."
