We’re constantly reminded that games take time to make and the good ones can take even longer than we’d like. Downloadable content is no longer the exception to this rule. Earlier this afternoon, Bethesda Softworks announced that PlayStation 3 Fallout 3 DLC wouldn’t be arriving until late September.
In a posting on the official PlayStation blog, Bethesda production director Ashley Cheng said Bethesda is “knee deep in testing” and hope to “have the first DLC out by the end of September” as opposed to the June release we expected. “Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3,” she continued, explaining the delay, “we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.”
As for that first bit of DLC, it won’t be ‘Operation: Anchorage.’ In a move that makes total sense, Bethesda has opted to release ‘Broken Steel’ first. ‘Broken Steel’ expands the core game, allowing players to play after the original conclusion and continue exploring the Wasteland. 'Operation: Anchorage' is a good bit of content, but quite shallow in comparison.
“Once we release Broken Steel,” Cheng said, “we’ll have a better idea when the other DLC will be coming and will let you know specifics.”
Delays blow, sure, but Bethesda is playing cautious and making sure everything plays nice with each other before dumping it all on PlayStation Network. Good for them. The last thing PS3 Fallout 3 players need is broken content.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If it means that Bethsoft takes some time to iron out the kinks in the inevitable software updates to RUN the DLC.. that's cool with me, though.
I expect the PS3 DLC to sell rather poorly because a) it's coming out way too late (a lot of people never expected DLC, so they sold or traded in their copy long ago), b) too much resentment among PS3 owners about being left out in the cold for so long and c) too many other great games coming out around that time that people will be playing instead. Bethesda will only have themselves to blame for poor sales.
"Whiiiiine...whiiiiiine...*doesn't buy anyway*" results in "Well, little sales and tons of whining fanboys? Why bother?". Of course, I'd imagine Bethesa WOULD finish up releasing the DLCs on it, but it still reflects badly.
There was almost no point in releasing it in June and by September there's no point at all. This is as useless as still having Shivering Isles up for $24.99 when you can buy Oblivion GOTY (with Shivering Isles included) for $19.99.
Exactly my thought. But I still want them as soon as possible.
Patience is a virtue.
how about stfu you little retard? You make the rest of us Xbots look bad.
