Play your PS1 discs on your PSP via PS3's remote play

Play your PS1 discs on your PSP via PS3's remote play photo
     AMAZING

We heard the news from the PlayStation Boards, but we had to try it for ourselves.

It works! If you're sporting the latest firmware versions for your PS3 and PSP (2.10 and 3.80 respectively), you can pop a PS1 disc into your PS3 and play it on your PSP... wirelessly!

Owners of both systems already know the joys of having your video, audio, some gameplay, and PS3 internet in the palm of your hands, but now your classic PS1 favorites join in the fun.

Our test included several games, and we have to say that you're better off with RPG and strategy games than you are with action or fighting titles; the delay screws up the timing. I was able to boot up some old favorites like Wild Arms, Lunar, Xenogears and many more, and each played totally fine.

To do this, simply insert a PS1 game into your PS3 and start the Remote Play app. Now select Remote Play in your PSP to bring up the PS3's XMB. Simply select the PS1 disc in the XMB as you normally would on your PS3 and begin playing.

Two more pictures are after the jump.

ok someone let me know HOW this makes any freakin sense?

So in other words, i cant play the game while im what? taking a shit and away from the tv?! and the ps3 is still tied up streaming this to the psp? so i might as well play it on a 50" tv right?

Jesus how about instead of wasting time with gimicky crap like this, let the PSone die out, and make some decent games to the PS3. I have money to waste on a PS3, but why? theres nothing worth getting that I cant get on my 360.

Sony = Lagging

To play PS1 games anywhere fool. its not that hard to figure out.

PS1 had some of the best RPG's ever made. Get Final Fantasy Chronicles in your PS3 and you could be playing Chrono Trigger in the palm of your hand anywhere.

Do you have to be near your PS3 to play them?
In other words, could I play them outside of my home?

I love some ps1 games, but fuck thats like me hooking up my n64 and actually WANTED to sit and play through games again. Might as well break out the 486 computer and play monkey island

You can play them over wifi you freaks.

Right? Right?

Or is it within 100 feet, which is gay.

I really think it's over Wifi. I HOPE.

Y0j1mb0 at 12/18/2007 19:38
Folks..that means you can play anywhere that has Wifi and access your games on your PS3 from the PSP. That shit is cool. Where Spence got 100 ft is beyond me.

How about making these games downloadable to the PSP? Then I could play them anywhere. I don't see the point in this at all.

if it was over wifi then that means I could just set up and ISP somewhere and steam PSone games for anyone to play?

Me thinks not. 100 feet, max

I meant a 100 as a general. I cant go down the block and use my router to go on the web. The stream distance varies ofcourse.

pooper at 12/18/2007 19:45
You got this totally wrong spence, it DOES use WIFI. you have to sign in with your psnetwork id on your psp. You can be halfway around the world and use your psp to turn on your ps3, stream your music, videos, and now play psone games. or you could start downloading a new ps3 demo so its ready when you get home.

This is great for roommates or couples. For example, while my fiancee is hogging the tv playing something on his XB360, I can fire up the PS3 and play a PS1 game with the PSP. Not a bad idea at all!

I would love the believe that, but honestly. Do you think Sony would be up to basically allowing access to whoever wants they're games for free? as long as you knew where to connect? and with SONY basically suppling the portal?

But then again wouldn't be the first time they did some back ass thing

Y0j1mb0 at 12/18/2007 19:46
Spence again..that means ANYWHERE with wifi you can access what you have on the PS3 with your PSP. Example..while I'm at work I can access my Lunar from my PS3 to mny PSP.While I'm at it I get the added benefit of scaring my wife at home while doing this.

Easy.

...
spencer shut the fuck up.

you can play your ps1 games streaming to your ps3 via ANY WIRELESS HOTSPOT
that doesnt mean 100 feet
that doesnt mean 50 feet.
it means if you were in hongkong, and your ps3 was in japan, and you wanted to play a ps1 game on your psp, it is possible. added to this remote turn on via wifi, and you got it made.

waiting for cracked equivalent of 3.80 now...

*Slaps forehead* man some people here need to read up before posting.

Anywhere you can access a WIFI connection, you can access your PS3 through your PSP. Now with this new feature you can play your PS1 games remotely.

I've tried this out today, its a fact that it works.

Remote play is not new spence the only new thing here is the ps1 playability. PSP owners can already do cool things like this with the PS3 and was a bullet point in several confrences. this just adds too an already cool feature. I don't have a PSP or PS3 but the cool shit you can do with the 2 in my eyes is the only "next gen" thing they have done with there new systems. I like it but till they get some more games on ps3 I can't justifiy the cost..

Christ. You can play YOUR PS3 through the PSP. If your system isn't registered against a PSP, it won't work. If you'd ever used Remote Play, you'd know that this is how it works. It's just a new feature through the PSP and Remote Play. It's quite nice, since I can be someplace away from the PS3, say at my parents house, and now play FFVI or ChronoTrigger through that WITHOUT emulation.

I have copies of both games for the PSX, so I don't see much point in emulation, especially now.

ShadowXOR's Avatar
ShadowXOR at 12/18/2007 20:33
1. The lag makes it a pointless feature in my opinion.
2. You have to be on the internet or close by the system. Free internet is available FAR from everywhere.
3. SpencersGifts made a complete ass of himself.
4. Just get custom firmware and you can play all the games you want with lower load times, no lag, and have access to all PSX games instead of just the ones Sony wants to sell you.

ass how? because i think its a waste?

Its a feature that has a lot of bells and whistles, but from what it looks like, is un needed.

Wouldn't the psone game have to be in the CD tray? or could u rip it to the ps3 hard drive?

BTW, I'm pretty sure with the 40gig ps3, the lack of wifi built in means you'd have to have it hard lined.
Scape's Avatar
Scape at 12/18/2007 20:48
While emulation may be a "better" option when it comes to actually playing the games without lag. I would say that the majority of gamers don't have the knowledge to run emulators on their PSP or they don't want to deal with messing with their firmware and running emulators. (Not sure if they have them at full speed yet, but I think they do for most systems). Also not everyone has memory sticks large enough for game ROMS.

While it's not perfect, this is just a cool thing that Sony is doing for gamers. Not everyone is going to take advantage of it but it's cool that it is there.

I agree that it's a useless feature but you made an ass out of yourself by claiming it couldn't be played over the internet multiple times. It was flat out wrong and you looked like a complete douche bag.

um, I dont know, and I might be alone on this one, but why in the hell would you want to play a ps1 game anyway? I dont have a PSP but is the selection that bad??

I cant even get myself to play some of the older 360 games I have let alone the dusty PS2 games I have sitting around.

I mean, I loved my ps1 and lots of games for it, but I dont think i could waste 10 minutes with them now.

ok, enough shit talk, Im off to play madden 01 on my game boy advance.

@Spence:

Okay, lets completely take away the feature then. That will make the people that wanted to use this feature really happy.

Stop being a doucebag.

As for the people saying "Just emulate it with homebrew on a PSP"

Keep stealing. Thanks. You're making the world a better place by pirating everything.

If you're actually using legit backups, then no worries. Keep on it.
