I think it's time for another personal confession. I ... wow, this is really tough. Okay. *deep breath*
I have never finished Chrono Trigger. Not once. I don't even have any idea how far into the game I am because I have either skillfully avoided any sort of spoiler for the game or didn't know I'd seen one when it happened. Despite my best efforts, attempting at least once yearly for a decade, the game remains sadly uncompleted.
Maybe that can change this month. Fangamer is doing a really cool event where they take on the classic Square action-RPG one chapter at a time over the course of a month. Each day brings a new section of the game to focus on and they've worked up some challenges everyone can attempt to do even if you've played the game a thousand times before. Sounds like the whole thing is a lot of fun, but they're a few days in now so you'll want to hurry up and get to the Village of Magic pronto.
I've been thinking a lot lately about my approach to games, particularly titles which require an unhealthy time investment that I never get around to finishing. Concluding just last night that I needed to try and tackle them one hour at a time, this event seems right up my alley.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
yeah, me neither. I bought it for two bucks at a garage sale and lost interest at the death fmngeige thing that floats in the sky.
I even denounced it for a while, I'm not sure why. Just not one of my faves.
Maybe I'll fire up the DS game for this.
Leave your gamer card on your desk.
Chrono Trigger is on there. Now, I absolutely love the game, and I've gotten well over half-way... but I've never truly finished it.
And I own it for SNES in the box. Weird, right?
I remember my save file had 99 Black Rocks. Since, as far as I remember, you can only get 1 Black Rock per playthrough... yeah.
I just find it strange that anyone could not finish Chrono Trigger, but finish any other RPG. Chrono Trigger seems like the shortest RPG in the world to me. It's like candy - short and sweet, and then you hop right back in after you've finished.
I haven't played it since, though. Might be worthwhile when I have some time (not anytime soon).
You guys should seriously just beat it.
'Nuff said.
Now that the lecture is over, I can understand how some people can get hung up. Once the game starts going to the FAR past, the story starts coming together and the great fun of post-apocalyptic eras and eras with knights are put on hold for story.

@LK4O4: That would be a sound strategy, except for the fact that I almost never leave my house and, when I do, I rarely have time to play a game. My DS gaming gets done on the couch while I watch TV (unless it's for review) which limits me as far as the games I wind up playing.
