that was always fanboy argument the truth was that 3rd parties abandoned first n64 due to Sony excessive "pay for exclusivity deals" and demand for quality games from other publishers. Gamecube was released too late and 3rd parties were lazy that's why it wasn't supported by them. funny enough both N64 and Gamecube were THE most core systems from Nintendo released to date by "fanboy logic":
most powerful systems in their respective generations,
exclusive software consisted almost entirely of core games,
now, both of those systems failed miserably unlike psx/ps2 that followed Wii road which was providing low-end system with more mainstream line-up of games so Nintendo said fuck it and made a Wii which was bashed by 3rd party publishers who released only increasingly shoddy port except for Ubisoft and Capcom who actually made some effort on Wii from the very beginning. now what were the only 3rd party that truly succeeded on Wii? Ubisoft and Capcom, because people got burned by other publisher's games and simply stopped buying their games. when Wii succeeded and those publishers started making some effort it was all over for them because general audience was done with them.
How is that a great example? Nintendo owns the IP and yet Reggie still tells us no like we're five year olds that can't think for ourselves.
With Nintendo staff on this project, I'm sure it'll remain like Twin Snakes. This staggered upcoming generation of consoles, with Nintendo's releasing before any others are even announced does make this a peculiar circumstance.
The double RAM in a Bayonetta sequel sounds tantalizing. I imagine the dynamic worlds will be designed to blow DmC's shifting platforms out of the water with double frame rate, and more weapons/accessories/combos/whatever will rock.
which is a huge mistake IMO. no developer want huge increase in power and similar jump like we've had with xbox-->xbox360 due to increased development cost. first 4 years of this generation ended with over 100 studios being closed down due to not selling enough copies of their games on ps3/360(not to mention bankruptcy of Midway who survived so long entirely thanks to sales of Wii/DS games). why do you think smaller publishers and developers like Atlus invested so heavily in Wii and published more risky projects almost exclusively on Nintendo console? Shaun White Snowboarding which sold nearly 1.7mln copies on PC, ps3 and 360 is considered as a flop by Ubisoft as the game didn't break even on development costs alone and that was average budget for Ubisoft. at the same time it's really hard to think about Wii game that didn't make money.
Nintendo is smart with creating Wii U - system that is much more powerful than either HD platforms to make significant jump in quality, but not big enough that would bankrupt studios. not to mention the push for different experiences that will allow to create audience and userbase willing to invest in big budget projects like Elder Scrolls, GTA, CoD etc., but also won't alienate smaller devs who create smaller games like Trauma Center or Boy and His Blob plus more off-beat and niche projects like Endless Ocean.
That they're wary to test the profitability of the series in other regions isn't surprising, and it doesn't change my point, which is that they published Book of Memories in the other regions anyway, in spite of the probability of them losing money. Taking a chance is good once in a while, but throwing away money is not the best idea for a business.
In the meantime, it is to my understanding that the Fatal Frame 2 remake is available in Europe. Be an adult and modify your system to play imports. That's something that adults with money can feasibly afford to do.
Also, I'm sick of people saying the Wii U isn't a "next-gen" system. It is, because it is the NEXT GENERATION of Nintendo's consoles. It isn't a redesign of the Wii, this is a whole new console. Just because there are going to be more powerful consoles in the same generation DOESN'T MEAN it isn't the next generation of the console.
"There's really only one way to interpret this: Nintendo was the only company that demonstrated any significant interest in getting the game made."
Or we can interpret it as Nintendo threw money at Platinum when Sega tanked the project so Nintentdo could get it as an exclusive.
And the silliest comment in the article:
"If Bayonetta 2 were coming to the PS4 or Xbox 720, no one would have made a peep."
You're overlooking people who don't have any interest in the WiiU or more importantly the Nintendo exclusive games. If they liked Halo and Gears of War they'd have bought a new Xbox console regardless so they could have enjoyed Bayo 2 if it had been multi-platform. If a person liked Uncharted or God of War they would have been planning on buying the next Sony machine and also looking forward to a multi-plat Bayo 2.
Now? Because Nintendo through money at a company to get Bayo 2 as an exclusive, and don't kid yourself this is exactly what they did, people who BOUGHT and SUPPORTED the original game and DONT want to get a Nintendo console are left out in the cold.
http://mynintendonews.com/2012/09/23/platinum-games-confirms-nintendo-staff-are-working-on-wii-u-exclusive-bayonetta-2/
using your loginc if a person liked Bayonetta he would buy WiiU and also looking forward to all the multiplatform games that will hit that platform. not to mention the fact that there's second Platinum game exclusive to Wii U, Wonderful 101. plus for people who skipped Wii, Wii U is the best deal EVER. you get great new system that will be THE main console in the next generation that will gonna have both Nintendo exclusive games but also all the multiplatform titles, but also is backwards compatible with Wii so you can pick up games you've missed and play classic you've never got a chance to play thanks to Virtual Console.
Well, hello to you too! Wii U is not a next gen. When you try to argue with other people's opinions, you should at least learn about that opinions.
To those saying it's not a killer app.... You're right. What Nintendo have done with this move is set off a little controlled explosion though. People have sat up and taken notice and if they can do this with a few more games, people might be persuaded into a Wii U purchase...
Poor Inaba had to go and say that publicly because Platinum was getting way too much shit for this move (i'm not talking about deserving it or not).
What's happening now is that nintendo is using this particular case as a big PR push and a display for other 3rd party developers.
In my eyes this reads as: "See how good we are now? "put your game on our console, we even send you manpower now!"
As a developer who worked on Wii on a 3rd party studio, i find this "new nintendo" so hard to believe.
For the good of Plat, i really hope they're getting the support they deserve development-wise, i'd really hate seeing them go under.
God, will ps3 and xbox360 owners buy a WiiU?
and god replied:
What? no man, That shit is wack.
and thusly, MrBounce hath spread the truth across the land.
for he is the pope of xbox360 and ps3 gaming and he shalt know what consoles the loyal followers shalt purchase
"I would rather this game not exist at all instead of be exclusive to the Wii U"
What kind of insane society do we live in where supposed "fans" of games wish sequels would never get made because they might release on a console they don't want to buy? This whole situation is crazy.
I still remember the day after SEGA announced bancruptcy, and the Dreamcast got killed off. All of a sudden I had to find new consoles to play my favorite franchises. I had to buy a PS2 to play Virtua Fighter 4, an Xbox to play Jet Set Radio Future, a Wii to play Sonic Colors and I'm still waiting for a new Ecco game. Don't even get me started on Shenmue. Times are tough for japanese core games, and we all should be greatfull for Nintendo stepping in, keeping the fire burning. The world of Video-Gaming is a better one for it.
I'd like to raise awareness for the following petition at this occasion:
Ecco Revival

with Monster Hunter being exclusive to Nintendo platforms, Big N made sure that all japanese console games will be on Wii U - mostly exclusive. i just hope Nintendo will announce Endless Ocean 3 very soon - you don't need to update the graphics by much for me to enjoy it, just make sure that there will be awesome music like in the previous two and give me an openworld environment.
and while Nintendo is at it, i really hope they will buy de Blob IP from THQ since they cancelled entire franchise.
plus it would be nice if they got Battlestations and Nier from Square(or at least hire the guys who made those games cause they were awesome). Battlestations game with strategy view on the gamepad and action view on TV would rock. getting Paradox, Creative Assembly, Firaxis Games or other big strategy developer on board would be nice too - Wii U control scheme just begs for some strategy love.
The argument that the WiiU is not really 'next-gen' based on its power is interesting for about a second, but this guy here pops into mind almost immediately:
and I'm reminded why using tech to determine a console's overall worth in the grand scheme of things is complete bullshit.
Its consistent with what nintendo has been doing all gen. They partner more with third parties than either sony or microsoft
Ex.
They partnered with square to bring dragon quest over
They partnered with mistwalker on last story
They partnered with capcom/sega/namco to do project x zone
They partnered with cyberconnect to bring zolatorobo
They partnered with level 5 to publish inazuma eleven and layton
They partnered with treasure to do sin and punishment 2
indies dont seem so happy with what microsoft or sony are doing these days which is why they are running to steam like the wind
That being said...my true concern about Nintendo publishing a Bayonetta game is that they will have to tone her down or otherwise censor her. I'm excited if this means Nintendo is loosening up a bit.
Question 2: If Bayonetta was released on X360 and PS3 and did relatively well why is it now a WiiU exclusive and is "forcing" fans to buy a WiiU?
Answer to Q1 and Q2: Cause life is not fair, suck it up and buy a WiiU.
It's all awesome when one's on the winning side of the unfairness but sucks to be on the other side for a change, right fanboys?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Well said, and entirely correct.
This is clearly PR damage control. They also lie about "we don't feel this is a platform change" it clearly is. Platinum is is stretching the truth here. Sure it wouldn't have happend without nintendo, "translation, nintendo offered the most $ & marketing to platinum" Nintendo is buying a fanbase here, not a franchise.
This doesn't mean it would never have happend on xbox 360 or ps3. This just means platinum didn't want to shop around any longer for a publisher with less money. They had already started making the game, they weren't going to just dump it.
Maybe I'm just reading it wrong, or maybe because I'm tired, but you make it sound like Nintendo made a bad decision by supporting a game that plenty of people love, and making it possible for a sequel for those core fans to play.
It sold what, 1.4 million between the 360 and PS3? That is not very good, especially for a company like Sega, who has no money to begin with. With the kind of budget I assume that game had, I'm positive they didn't make that money back.
I'm pretty sure all the other publishers Platinum either turned them down because the game didn't sell well enough, not because they give them enough money. Or others may have tried to buy exclusive rights to the Bayonetta franchise, but I see that as unrealistic. Nintendo is publishing and funding this project, yet they don't own the franchise.
Be thankful. Bayonetta did not sell THAT well at all, it's niche title with a very insignificant yet rabid fanbase. Nintendo, of all companies, did not need its sequel. At all.
