I'm a fan of every Platinum game, so I don't think they'll alienate me....unless they turn into EA or Activision or something.
Bayonetta 2 is here to stay, and i definitely need a Wii U now T_____T
glad it's being made instead of letting it die soundly.
cannot wait for the new gameplay videos!!!!!!
also you just can't please anyone, heck nintendo is trying to appeal to the hardcore then they get shunned left and right, and when they do nothing else they still get shunned.
wtf Sega are you doing??
you could have released it in the summer like it was supposed to be and there were less games by that time.
now the game has to fight big blockbusters of next year.
the game is already done and translated, wtf stopped you from shipping it??
(Although now that I think about it, how many games HAVE gone multi to exclusive?)
I for one am generally happy when a game gets announced for the latest hardware, it gives me more incentive to buy that console, and the game can benefit from the added horse power.
One last thing is that the Wii U Gamepad can alter this game in a simple yet dramatic way. One of the cool things about Bayonetta was being able to pause the game and change your weapon sets. Now it's possible for every weapon to be available on the touchscreen. That opens the game up to combos that use every single weapon.
"I loved Bayonetta and really wanted a sequel, and was already planning on getting a Wii U so it worked out for me."
The words. You took them out of my mouth.
Jet Set Radio Future was kinda out of everyone's hands considering the Dreamcast, ya know, DIED. Any Sega sequel following the Dreamcast was 100% going to be on a non-Sega console. I can't think of any Sega-as-third-party game in those first few post-Dreamcast years that wasn't exclusive to a particular platform. It wasn't until Sega gained experience with the various consoles that it felt comfortable with multiplat development.

NHL 2K11 was a Wii only title. It didn't sell as well as NHL 2K10 for the Wii, but did sell better than either the 360 and PS3 versions of 2K10
@Tony It's a different situation, I was just using the closest example to me.
GoofierBrute makes a very solid point Bayonetta sold about 1.4 Million in lifetime sales across all regions on two platforms, by comparison it took NSMB 2 5 weeks to reach 1 Mil in Japan alone. Overall I'd say we're lucky if the game matches the overall sales of the original.
The big deal here is Nintendo is supporting an expensive game that won't bring them tremendous sales. Madden Wii U, CoD Wii U & Assasins Creed Wii U will all likely sell more copies than Bayonetta 2, yet Nintendo is still funding this game. At a time in the Industry where many studios are shutting down or are having to change their games to resemble their higher selling competitor's games this is kind of a big deal. Nintendo is supporting this game not because it will sell alot of console, but because they are legitimately reaching out to the "hardcore gamer." Remember back when we thought we wouldn't get Xenoblade or Last Story (still waiting on Pandroa's Tower), this seems to represent a positive shift in Nintendo.
Nintendo needed exclusives to sell their crappy new console, and Platinum is one of the only Japanese companies available to fill that role. Nintendo isn't supporting Platinum for any reason other than they needed SOMETHING to try and sell, and nobody would go exclusive with a game that would make way more money being multi-plat.
I imagine once the exclusivity deal ends and the game is done not selling well, it's plausible it will end up on other platforms to try and make some money (SW3 made it's way to PS3 in Japan, and Nintendo published that on Wii), but that probably depends on the type of contract they have.
Another great example is Nintendo acquiring co-ownership of the Fatal Frame IP, a series that I doubt is anything other than niche outside Japan. Also, Book of Memories was said to be terrible but, bless their hearts, they brought it to the states anyway. I'll be surprised if that turned out to be a Nintendo profit.
I think that Nintendo could actually stand to acquire some nice sales from this move, even if not in the sense of profiting from Bayonetta 2 itself. Just them having the balls to fund it has created a slight buzz that's attracting 'hardcore' gamer attention to the system, and I personally went from 'disinterested' to 'mildly intrigued' thanks to the move. Stuff like this could cause a boost in system sales at the least.
I also asked ye olde jimbo to jimquisition those dumb-asses. I hope he does it.
Professional Troll is Professional.
Nintendo published Samurai Warriors 3 in the States and Europe. Temco Koei published it in Japan and still held the rights to the series. The difference between the Wii version and PS3/PSP versions was the lack of Murasame Castle mode, which is a Nintendo IP.
Speaking of Murasame, I hope that with Takamaru's appearance in SW3 and the mini-game in Nintendo Land we can get a full fledged sequel or even a remake to The Mysterious Murasame Castle.
THANK. YOU.
@Wedge: Isn't the Wii U said to be more powerful than 360 and PS3? That's a bit more than just catching up.
With Nintendo's console? No. Because they decided to release a console that's only a little bit more powerful than current generation. Even from the HDD you can see this.. 8GB / 32GB? What is this? They put out a low-tech console to be able to sell it cheap(and still make a profit!), but the people who buy it get screwed by this. Sony/MS actually start a generation losing money on console sales..
There's a reason why people could have PS3 or 360 only this gen, and be able to play almost all big hit titles, whilst if you had a Wii, and are a hardcore gamer, you had to also have a PS3 or 360. So yeah, this is why I am upset. If Nintendo actually released a proper console that doesn't feel like an absolute rip-off then I would have no reason to be upset, and I'd see the console in the same light I see the other 2 consoles.
Side-note: not too excited about the prospect of Nintendo forcing PG to use the tablet controller for Bayonetta 2
Wow. It's like you either didn't read a thing or you willfully ignored what I wrote.
Youre opinions of the Wii U's capabilities are irrelevant. The industry and the market consider it the start of a new generation, so that's what it is.
And if no one but Nintendo offered to fund the game's development following the relatively poor sales of the original, what makes you think anyone will pick it up should the sequel repeat the original's failure? That is one bizarre lapse of logic.
Also I do agree that having only wii would not be a great thing for obvious reasons. But at the same time wii had plenty of insanely good games and if people didn't play them, they're missing out on great experiences.
For the last six years all I had was Nintendo systems (DS,Wii,3DS) and I have a backlog of hardcore games I have yet to beat. Now...back to Devil Survivor
Literally NO ONE else would have been willing/able to do this. The only realistic candidates were Activision, ea, microsoft(American companies uninterested in anything incapable of turning immediate sales profits and/or following dlc deals) Sony(Who are closing studios they do own... if they could afford such a collaboration they wouldn't be shutting down studios they already have), Capcom(Platinum isn't on the best terms with them, if memory serves...) and...Nintendo.
So there it is. And that's the end of it. ^_^
...mainly cause Nintendo has disappointed me since the GameCube.
Though I've moved over to mostly PC gaming anyways so even if I did by a Wii U I wouldnt play it.
Would you kindly tell me what kind of power the new Sony and Microsoft boxes have under their hood? Could you also point out the new games announced for it? How about some gameplay videos of upcoming titles?
You can't because as of this moment the PS4 and Xbox 720 do not exist. All we have are vague power rumors and that's it. We can't judge how games will appear on them because we literally know nothing concrete about the hardware.
And I would temper your expectations regarding their capabilities, if I were you. They'll probably be more powerful than the Wii U, sure, but not by the huge factor some are assuming. If this generation has taught us anything, it's that modern game development has become a killer of the mid-tier studios. Super expensive and powerful new machines would do more harm than good. I guarantee the new machines will be far more modest than what is theoretically possible.
The game industry is a wonderful thing for its consistent evolving challenge every 5 years or so. It's a very active industry with a lot of unexpected twists regarding companies and consoles. (oh, SEGA Dreamcast...)
I am a big Nintendo fanboy so I could be biased on feeling good about Bayonetta making it on Wii U, but the past years I had to be very picky on the titles I had to get like a raccoon in the garbage, and the Wii U seems to be a great response to my continuous loyalty and support. I suffered through a lot of jealousy watching all the cool things that were not coming on Wii or PC for a while (Brutal Legend, Dead Rising, El Shaddai...)
Hell, I was happy to see the amount of great titles that were coming in other systems like Pixel Junk Shooter, Halo Reach, Critter Crunch, Red Dead Redemption, and way many others.
As you said, the machines don't exist yet, since there has not been an official unveiling yet. So yeah, I don't know how powerful they will be. However, I can see the difference between console and PC version of games being released atm, and considering the trend of Sony/MS for power increase between consoles, I'm willing to bet that they will want to close the gap with PC(and perhaps be on top, at least for a little while). Also at E3 we saw the Unreal Engine 4 and the Square Enix tech demo.. I'm assuming Sony/MS will want that on their new consoles.
I could be wrong though; either way, they will be more powerful than the Wii U. This is certain
*Nintendo gets an excellent third party game*
"Why the hell is this on a Nintendo console?!?"
That sums up about 90% of the "gamers" on the Internet, save for the fact that I was VERY generous with the representation of their grammatical prowess.
We know Resident Evil 4 had a Nintendo exclusive contract, which got annulled. I'd theorise that Nintendo let it go so that it could also be ported to the Wii (especially at a time where their library was very sparse).
The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection neither includes the original MGS PS1 game, nor MGS: The Twin Snakes for the GC (a remake of MGS). Utterly bizarre when you consider that it's the first title of the Solid series and should've been a 'must have'.
Phoenix Wright and The World Ends With You eventually got outside of the DS. How long has those been? Around 5+ years, isn't it?
Also I think I read somewhere that Tales of Symphonia for the GC was translated and dubbed by Nintendo, so when the contract expired they only ported it to the PS2 in Japan, because they would've had to retranslate the whole game all over again.
So again, this will depend on how much of a hand Nintendo had with Bayonetta 2's development, and what exactly their contract covers.
Bayonetta 2 is paid by Nintendo and Platinum is actually cooperating with Nintendo devs on it so no it won't be released on other platforms.
Resident Evil 4 was part of 5 timed exclusive game deal Resident Evil producer wanted and Capcom signed with Nintendo while Twin Snakes was remade internally by Nintendo.
i think you're forgetting that both Phoenix Wright and The World Ends With You were made exclusive to DS because Capcom/Square Enix willingly wanted to make them exclusive. yes, i know it's weird in the world of ps3/xbox360 when the only way for Sony and MS to get 3rd party exclusive is to pay for it, Nintendo never did that.
