You'd think that Bayonetta, the ludicrously sexy videogame from Platinum Games, would have been designed entirely by males, entirely for males. However, while chatting with Platinum's Yusuke Hashimoto, I found out that not only was the game's titular character designed by a woman, but that the studio believes only a woman's touch could have made Bayonetta who she is.
"It had been already decided to make an action game which has a female main character," explains the game's producer. "The concept of Bayonetta's design was 'a witch who came back to life in the present.' We were particular about giving her costume a modern arrangement whilst retaining some elements of the traditional view of a witch.
"The designer who created Bayonetta is a female herself, so the costumes and accessories show the touch and detail that could only come from a woman’s sensibility."
A very interesting argument indeed. Do you think that only a woman could have made Bayonetta look the way she looks? They do often say that women know what men want better than they do themselves, so I suppose there is a certain merit to the idea.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Is this an opportunity you are willing to give up?
That could also be why she isn't as hot as I think she could be D:
Who aside from overly controlling women that don't actually know what men want would say this?
Either way though, she's did a good job here and i'm ready to fap my ass off to this game come next mon.....next year. -_-
(sorry, but I had to use this picture again)
Platinum does an awesome job with stylizing their games (Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Madworld...), so Bayonetta will no doubt be the same. To all you naysayers who think this game is disgusting: it's just a heavily-stylized game, like Okami, but instead of the emphasis being on beautiful painting-style art, the emphasis is on a woman being sexy.
Hypothetically, though, I don't believe that a man couldn't have come up with a similar design, but perhaps this is where she gets some of her mystique.
By the way, Jim, there was a Bayonetta cosplayer/booth babe at PAX, and she was really friggin' good. I tried to snap a picture for you, but she was on the up escalator while I was on the down, and my phone isn't quick enough.
I think her design also influenced Bayonetta's attitude too. She coulda been a "I am woman, hear me roar" type, but I like how shameless she is just for the fuck of it.
And, yes, the lady who did it was hot and fit the part wonderfully. Even got the attitude nailed!

Maybe it was Baroness? http://gamegirl.blogfaction.com/article/110664/baroness-as-bayonetta-at-pax-2009/
G'd on ya platnium.
And she is not one to screw with.
Fucking awesome.
Also, any character that has so much attention paid to more subtle details besides jiggly bits must have been designed by a woman. We see what happens when guys design their vision of an attractive woman in videogames - and therefore, the controller wiggle equals titty jiggle.
Neither was I actually until very, very, recently. Like right now for some reason.
I still know shit about this game though. I know Jim likes, it's pretty, and I still get shafted when videos are posted because I use the mobile version of this site. :/
... the glasses do add an "intelligent" look that will also be helpful in creating appeal to women as well (who are tired of bimbo game characters).
Until the game is actually out, a lot remains to be seen.
I've never seen tights made out of hair before.
Height shouldn't be an issue, one word: Amazons.
Amazons --> snu snu.
Also, for some reason she kinda reminds me of Six from "Tripping the Rift". Though that might just be me. Either way I don't mind looking at her.
This might have been designed by a woman, but the target audience is pretty weel defiend in that concept art.
Pff.
Wow... I SO don't see that at all. Honestly, Bayonetta looks and acts like she was designed by a seventeen year old goth chick, who is (heavy-set) fat, has NEVER had a boyfriend --- and doesn't get along with other girls, because she spends to much time by herself.
Only those type of girls make characters like this. A secret persona of who they'd like to be, instead of who there really are. Certainly NOT a grown woman, who's professional artist, no-freaking-way. Unless, there's some "culture thing" I'm missing -- I don't buy it.
