Platinum Games wants to make Star Fox at gunpoint photo

Platinum Games boss Hideki Kamiya has stated that he wants to create a brand new Star Fox game ... at gunpoint. Apparently, it would not be enough for Nintendo to simply ask the Bayonetta developer. Despite seeming to really want to make it, Kamiya would rather make it after staring down the barrel of a .45.

"I want Nintendo's staff to come to Platinum, stick guns at us and tell us 'You guys make a new Star Fox'," stated Kamiya after learning that Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto has expressed a desire for a brand new Star Fox title.

Kamiya also revealed that he was working on a 3D shooting game for Capcom many years ago, but when he discovered Star Fox 64, he gave up because the classic title was too satisfying and he felt there was no need for his own game. He praised Star Fox 64 for its unique scenario and "heated battles."

Seems like he's really fond of the series, so I have no idea why he wants to do it at gunpoint when it seems he'd happily do it under any circumstance. Maybe he's got a real kink for hostage scenarios. Some people are like that, and they get themselves into all sorts of trouble.

The motorcycle and missile-riding levels of Bayo were by far the worst aspects of the game. I think they're a great developer, but a Starfox game that was in any way similar to those levels would be AWFUL.

Yeah, those levels were annoying at best but if they got a hold of this property they could make a really amazing game. We could finally get the follow up to Starfox 64 we have all been waiting so long for.

If we get an FPS/Shooter hybrid like Adventures without the suck, I'm happy.

I think the motorcycle parts of Bayonetta were mostly fan-service/an homage to old school action. I doubt Kamiya would want something like that in a brand new Star Fox game, that never had anything that camp.

I want a sequel to Star Fox 64. It went wrong after that. Lets just ret-con the other 2 out of existence.

If they're going to outsource it I'd rather Nintendo gave Treasure a crack at making a Star Fox game.

They really ought to give it to the Innocent Aces team. The game was good enough that they deserved another shot at perfecting the formula. Really, the only problem was that the missions themselves were boring.

Yeah, I'd rather not have Platnium do it. Just doesn't sound like the greatest pairing.

If they make new Star Fox game, I think they will make it better than Namco.

If they make a new Star Fox game, that'd be amazing. Not those bullshit Starfox games where he gets out of the ship too. If he's getting out of the ship, it better be to switch vehicles or a celebration after I beat the game. No more Zelda ripoff bullshit!

WHHHAAAATTTTT.

I had no idea people disliked the Bayonetta missile-riding. I was grinning like a baby after doing several lines of cocaine playing that Space Harrier throwback.

I could see Plat doing this.I think they've proven them selves pretty well. And lets face it, anything they do can't be worse then Star Fox Adventures. The best part of THAT game was angling your camera up... oh well nevermind.

What made Star Fox awesome was the on rails shooter with multiple pathways and hidden routes that took effort to get to.

They could just pull a 3D Dot Games Heroes and make something that is "inspired" by Star Fox.

I don't know if Platinum is the right studio for it, but somebody should make a sequel, spiritual successor, or something related to Star Fox that isn't a piece of shit like Adventures.

Fuck yeah! There's no doubt that the next Starfox game would be amazing if Hideki Kamiya ha anything to do with it. Thing is, I think it's already in development. But I'd much rather have Platinum Games take over the franchise.

Come on Nintendo! Give the franchise to the creator of Okami! Now!!

Unique scenario is a funny way to describe Star Fox 64. It was a totally rad game but the scenario was pretty much lifted from the first game with some minor alterations.

Honestly, after playing the rail shooter sections in Bayonetta, I'll pass on this.

I'd rather they give it to someone like Treasure, but they've already made Sin and Punishment 2, so what do I need Star Fox for? Really?

The motorcycle level in Bayonetta wasn't too bad, if a tad bit repetitive.
The Space Harrier level was total crap, but I would imagine that if they took the time to build the right mechanics for an entire game, Kamiya could probably pull it off. If anything, the end result would be interesting at the very least.

But really, let them make the darn game if they are already lifting up their butts in offer.

Played the hell out of the original, everything down to warps, slot machines, and gunning for 100%. For me, 64 didn't measure up, and I am pessimistic about any sequels doing so. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't try to, anyway.

Nintendo is so franchise-happy that for them, keeping their fringe franchises going is almost like innovation.

Star Fox 64 is still my favorite flight simulator of all time, and one of my top favorite games. I think I've played through the story of Star Fox 64 at least 100 times in my life, it's an awesome game.

Then Star Fox Adventure came out and I cried, that game and assault were terrible.

Bayonetta was amazing, I really hope Platinum games works on this project.

You know, Starfox Adventures wasn't a bad game IMO. I actually liked it.

Though originally it wasn't even part of the Starfox franchise. It was called Dinosaur Planet. But then Miyamoto came in and told Rare to change it to Starfox Adventures because the main character looked like Fox. So the story had to be altered.
