We all know by now that the PlayStation is getting shortchanged with Bayonetta. Firstly, the debut of the PS3 version was embarrassing. Secondly, Platinum Games confirmed it was only developing for 360, with Sega then porting the game over to PS3. Thirdly, the demo was released on both Xbox Live and PSN, with the 360 demo proving to be superior in every way. Unsurprisingly, Platinum Games has been distancing itself from the Blu-ray port entirely.
The Japanese version of the game recognizes that Platinum Games is the developer, but also contains a very clear "Converted by Sega" message. Such disclaimers are unusual to the point of never having really happened before. What's more, Japanese game magazine Famitsu has published a similar disclaimer, making it very clear that anything found in the PS3 version is the responsibility of Sega and not Platinum.
It looks to me like Platinum wants nothing to do with the Bayonetta PS3, and judging by the bad reputation it's earned, that's hardly surprising. Still, it's simply baffling that the Sony system has been given such shoddy treatment. Quite why the game couldn't have been developed properly for both games is beyond me.
None of this bodes well for the final PS3 release.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
not because of some fanboyish knee-jerk reaction but because I don't want to pay full price for a half assed(see what I did there?) game.
I'm curious to see the difference in review scores.
Maybe the PS3 version will still turn out to be ok. There's still time.
That being said, too bad about the port. Like the Orange Box port, it's a great game getting shafted by the porting people.
Platinum falls into a bad position, having a "new" dev team and taking the risk with a new IP to boot. But honestly the problem with the ps3 port lies in the mentality of sega not wanting to risk enough money in the project to put out a competent port.
after looking at games like killzone 2 and uncharted 2 you start to wonder, why are we still looking at ports of 2007 quality when all ps3 multi-plats sucked.
still, this is really a first.
Really, they should have just made in 360 exclusive if they did not want to take the time to make sure the ps3 port would work out aswell... an exclusive game would be ignored by ps3 owners, but a crappy port will earn their fury. if your gonna do something, you should go all the way with it; if your gonna half-ass it, then you might aswell not even bother
in the ps3 version, did anyone else notice in the "dirt path" area that when you pointed the camera up and spun it that the tree textures spun with the camera?
i can't tell if sega has messed this up, or if the PS3 simply isn't capable of running bayonetta like the 360 can, nor can i tell if platinum knew this would be the case before they let sega start working on it.
for that reason i find it hard to actually blame either company for this, so telling the consumer exactly how the development happened seems to be the most honest and fair way to do it. most gamers don't even know the difference between a developer and a publisher anyway, so this is only going to impact those that actually take an interest in this sort of thing, and most of us are already well aware of the situation.
completely agreed. Also I'd like to add that being a new company they should try to go for 100% on all platforms or it will come back to bend them over and go Deliverance on them.
Platinum probably wnated to make a 360 exclusive but SEGA wanted to port it for the moneys. And thank Tao i'm getting the 360 version.
I hope you are remarking about not having the demo for both platforms because that would be silly: and not you tossing in a completely unrelated remark about your unbridled disdain for xbox. Because that would make you look silly.
Does platinum get more money for each 360 copy sold than it will for each PS3 version sold? Doesn't that kinda make it in Platinum's interest to do everything they can to sell more 360 versions than PS3 versions? Up to and including witholding developer support from Sega who are trying to port it to PS3?
Anyhow, none of the differences sound like they would ruin the game for anyone playing on the PS3 version.
And to everyone saying cancel the PS3 version: STFU. I'd still like to play the game and I don't forsee having a 360 anytime soon, thanks.
Any chance that they would fix up the American release?
why would making more money on one version make you concentrate on the better version? wouldn't you want to make the inferior version better to make more money seeing as how one version is already as good as it's gonna get? and why would you make more money off of one platform over the other? I'm pretty sure that you get the same amount of profit on both versions. That's the way it worked for pokemon, the Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons. Where are you getting these ideas from?
Ooops. Was gonna say I had no expectations, realized I had negative ones, deleted but forgot to delete the "no." :(
I am assuming Platinum will get significantly more money from Sega for each 360 copy that sells and less for each PS3 copy. Sega is incurring the cost and resource outlay of porting the title to PS3 and it looks (both from the issues raised in this article and from the graphical problems) like Platinum are not giving them any help with this.
If Platinum makes more money from 360 copies, it is in their interest to try to persuade consumers such as my self who own both systems to opt for the 360 version over the PS3 version. Just one possible theory I am throwing out there as to why Platinum are not assisting Sega in bringing the PS3 port up to scratch.
