GameTrailers TV had the world premiere trailer for Platinum Games' new project, which is called Vanquish. The new title is by Shinji Mikami, the creator of the Resident Evil series.
America -- specifically, San Francisco -- has come under attack, and it's up to one man to make a stand. The game looks like it has a Dead Space feel to it. The main hero's armor also looks like a cross between the Iron Man suit and the armor from the main character in P.N.03.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Meet the rest of the team
I feel. It might. Be too much to hope that this is for the Wii.
Still looks fantastic. There's a lot of mojo going on even with "Earth Attacked!" and "Mechsuit Marine" here.
No matter where this finds its home, and what it actually IS when it comes out, I'll be playing it.
Well, I had always wished for Japan to take some pages out of Western design...and when we're given ideas like this, I kind of wish I'd made a better wish. (Or at least specified gameplay mechanics and polish while avoiding character design.) It's bad when the most notable thing about this trailer is that the guy's armor is white instead of brown. I trust Platinum Games and Shinji Mikami to make good games, but they better drop some new information about this fast, or it's just going to blur with the hundreds of other "space marine in a face-obscuring suit shooting things" games.
America under attack? I want to believe that this game will be something similar to Metal Wolf Chaos, but I doubt it.
From the trailer alone, nothing seems too quirky or absurd as of yet. Even if it's not, Platinum Games has been on a run with good games, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
Oddly enough I just bought P.N.03 the other day and it arrived in the mail today.
This definitely looks interesting. I have a lot of faith in Platinum and RE is like my favourite game series. They've put out a lot of solid games. I definitely enjoyed Viewtiful Joe, Madworld and Okami. Hopefully, they'll avoid going down the Bayonetta-path-of-stupid-confusing-bullshit.
I'm always amazed at how well white (plastic) things look with rendered lighting. I actually thought some of the footage here was actual footage of people in foam suits.
some of the designs look interesting, lets hope its very strange and very Japanese.
Looks groovy. Post Bayonetta, I have faith that Platinum Games will deliver something else cool. Vanquish, I like the name too. I hope Platnum also keep it stupidly simple and fun, as complex plots can grate a bit.
Looks like 360 and PS3 judging by that trailer alone, a Wii would melt down just pushing that so I think it's highly unlikely it's a Wii game.
do i need to remind to some people that Mikami also created P.N03?
that game was total crap.
So don't get your hopes up just because Mikami is behind this
Do I need to remind some people that Mikami also created RE4, one of the best games of an awesome game series RE.
So I won't be keeping my hopes down either.
Why, Platinum Games, why? The world has enough generic-looking mechsuit marines-fighting-off-aliens games. Call me shallow, but the visual style and (theoretical) concept do absolutely nothing for me, but I will reserve judgment until more substantial material surfaces.
@ Necros - Careful what you wish for, eh? I'll agree that most Japanese design could benefit from adopting more Western ideas, but unfortunately new gameplay mechanics and design polish don't sell as much as an appealing visual style. But that's a rant for another time and place.
Mikami also worked on Killer 7, Godhand, RE 0-4, Viewtiful Joe, Onimusha, and Devil May Cry.
He's a man who's been part of every good Capcom game that didn't have Megaman or Chun-li in it.
Even though P.N.03 wasn't a great game ever, even it wasn't "total crap" if you knew how to play it. It was a unique idea to merge rhythm into an action game, and the dancing around bullets became pretty awesome....once you realized that was what you were doing.
this trailer makes the game seem really generic. I feel like it's intentionally appealing to western gamers with the space marine with gun thing. this is either a joke, or we are in for a lot of surprises. killer 7 had some interesting political commentary, and it will blow my mind if this is mikami's "funny games" to western gaming culture.
I'm going to give Mikami a chance. This is the first time in a while he's been in control of a his own game. Free of Capcom shackles, he'll shine just as brightly.
Just makes sure you get those controls right.
The space marine visuals, do like they are trying to appeal to western tastes, but that's not an autofail. Give it time and we'll see what else he has hidden.
Dead Space feel? where? more like Halo (not in a bad way), also did anyone else think "ZOMG Zentraedi Esbeliben Regult battle pod!" when that mecha appeared?
Looks flashy. Platinum just better remember how to balance style & substance better then what had been done on P.N.03, which is looking quite similar. But if Bayonetta is any indication....I'm for it.
I don't know why some people are complaining about this looking generic. Most war type shooters are hardly an original idea. This is a game looks epic, but I'll need to see some gameplay.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, anti-space marine comments in 3, 2, 1...

No, I was too late!
Still, holy balls. Gorgeous trailer, awesome design. Platinum always does a good job with those elements so I'm anxious for more.

Shinji Mikami is in on this? This is very relevant to my interests.

ps3 is meant for more creative and innovative games
Meh....
Trailer looks cool and all but, only thing it told was that the game explodes well in cutscenes.
some of the designs look interesting, lets hope its very strange and very Japanese.
Finally, a game where I can cosplay as Asimo and kill things.

Well, this looks pretty generic.
I dont mind generic every now and then though. As long as its good.
They've never let me done before though.
Also, is that FMV?
Man, terrible typos lately.
Anyway, I'm still excited. Maybe this will appeal to my inner Iron Man fanboy.

That video looked pretty cool and I hope the game turns out like the video and not some brother to Haze :(
This looks another case of 'robots are the bad guys.' Is anybody else sick of that plotline?

They are never actually in space.

Better be some Zero G in this bitch.
