Which explains the decision to put the game exclusively on a brand new console not owned by any of the fans/players/owners of Bayonetta. Gotta love double speak.
Yeah, it's not the gamers decision, but I think they're pissed for not having the game on PS3 and Xbox 360. Which makes some sense.
But yeah, gamers overreacting, what a surprise.
I want some.
I also hope Platinum releases some sort of Wii U port of the first game, at least digitally or something. Since I imagine Bayonetta 2 will run on the same engine, I can't imagine it'd be that hard, just release it at a discounted rate.
Just don't release an updated version on another console because I'm gonna feel really stupid about buying a WiiU.
Nintendo probably paid them a good chunk up front that they desperately needed.
The game was already canceled, More like Nintendo paid buttloads to make the game at all.
Granted having Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive came as a surprise to me but there's clearly reasons for this (Nintendo being the publisher for example). I'm more of a fan of the game then I am of needless console fan-boy-ism so the fact that we're getting a Bayonetta 2 is what matters most to me. Granted we're a ways away from seeing how it plays on the Wii U (I'm hoping it's not too dramatic a shift in gameplay style) but to see some "fans" freaking out so hard so soon about this is both sad and pathetic.
Personally I have no plans on getting a Wii U at launch. I may wait for the next model (or the next Zelda) or I may never get one. I never bought a Wii but have managed to play every game I wanted to on it. In fact I have already lined up multiple options for playing Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U should such a situation arise.
The fact is we're getting Bayonetta 2. That makes me happy. It can go on my self right next to my 360 and PS3 copies of the first Bayonetta. You can complain about systems and exclusives all you like, I going to play good games.
It has the smallest install base... because it's not out yet. You talks as if the Wii U is the Wii, which it isn't.
And by the time that happens, hopefully it did so well that Bayonetta 3 is at least announced.
I can see this going the way of Ninja Gaiden 2. Nintendo publish the game, then a year or so down the line Bayonetta 2 : Climax Edition gets announced for either current or next gen consoles.
I hope I'm right,as currently the WiiUs line up doesn't excite me,and while I would love to play Bayonetta 2,that love isn't going to be enough to purchase a console for one game.
There's a big difference between Nintendo taking away the game from other consoles by forced exclusivity and wrestling it from the current publisher, and them becoming the new publisher when the old one backed out.
Little kings story? Nope, and no one complains. Tweet? Naw, and as long as it isn't ios it can go anywhere. All those franchises from the nes and snes era? Didn't matter to gaming THEN when they became exclusive on a startup new home console.
There are even people who want NINTENDOS GAMES on non Nintendo platforms.
But nope. Can't have exclusives on a Nintendo console... because no one wants to buy one. Why?
"No games"
But of course that's not true. And when it is, it is only so because of this platform bitching that makes companies jump ship. Something no other fanbase or company in this industry on this level like camp Nintendo does.
People need to get over this. If every one else can have exclusives, and TAKE exclusives away from others, surely Nintendo can too. What's good for the goose, right?

So how long till we see her in a Smash Bros game?
Sega cancelled Bayonetta 2 in april 2012 after nearly 2 years of development, Nintendo bought the rights from Sega and is financing all the development so Platinum can finish the game the way they wanted. REAL fans of Bayonetta are thanking Big N for doing it and are thanking Platinum for taking this step and giving us another great entry in this franchise.
Naturally, it sure must have helped that Nintendo was already working with Platinum Games to publish new IP for Wii U (The Wonderful 101) at the time the opportunity came up to see if Bayonetta 2 could be ressurected if Nintendo were interested in making it happen.
I hope that made sense to you guys...
Think of the children!!!
i would like to say: i love you, now come and give me hug
That's true maturity in gaming
Here's the thing though. As an owner of only the one console (Xbox 360) I miss out on some of my most anticipated games. The Zelda series is a long-time favourite, but I'll never get to play Skyward Sword. Uncharted looks amazing, but I'll never have the cash to splash out on a PS3. Given the volume of games I play, there's thousands out there that I never have, and likely never will.
So I likely won't ever play the sequel to one of my all time favourite games. Know how much this damages my quality of life? About as much as a mosquito bite. Whether I feel Platinum are only in it for the money, or that this will ruin the franchise, or whatever, I will never understand the severity of peoples reaction to this. It's a video game, not a holocaust denial.
SEGA must've dropped the ball on Bayonetta, like some are saying. So, they had to find a new publisher. And they can't just pick any publisher, they have to be willing to take the IP and put money into it.
Sadly, I guess Nintendo seemed like the best option for them. At least it didn't end up in the hands of something like EA.
Regardless of how much money Ninty ponied up (and I'm sure it didn't take much at all), it's not an ideal situation for Platinum, and I'm sure the people there are not so stupid as to believe it is, regardless of what they say to the press. Be happy the game is being made at all, or at least blame all the publishers that turned them down.
With a reserve you say?
I just hope it sells, if it doesn't then this is it for Platinum and quite frankly I don't consider to be a system seller.
Okay, I can see where he thinks this.. Though, I don't believe there's quite a "state of upheaval" as much as there is a "we're coming to the end of a cycle".. If you don't like what happens at the end of a cycle, then you probably shouldn't have contributed to an industry that's put you into that corner without having made sure that that corner existed in the first place, or that there was a way for you to keep it from happening. Again, this really isn't a developers fault (for the most part), its more a publisher thing I'd guess.
Any way, if he really believes that strengthening a brand means going with one platform, then this needs to be something more companies just do from the get-go. Because the bitching and moaning about this game not being cross-platform like the original comes on the back of people who now have to buy a system they probably didn't want in order to support a game(series, now) that they loved. If they knew this from the start there wouldn't be an issue, since all the console comapnies have been doing this for years -Nintendo really being the primest of examples there. But to take a 3rd party game that wasn't this way, and do it, yeah.. It must feel like a betrayal.
So yeah, if he thinks this is the case then Metal Gear should ONLY be on PS3. Resident Evil should ONLY be on 360.. or better yet, Konami should just work with Sony. Capcom should only with with Microsoft. Because if its going to strengthen a brand by pushing it into only one corner of the industry, then everyone needs to do it to come out on top, and we -as customers- really need to be told that if you want this particular experience, that its exclusive to this one platform and you need to have all the platforms if you want to have all your personal choices (which, yes, I do believe is pretty wrong overall, just pointing this out because this is kind of where the industry would go if his thoughts were to pollinate.)
As for never wanting to alienate fans, I think you just did when you decided it was a grand idea to throw your hat into a ring that most people are weary of because of its long history of prior digressions and false promises to provide. Not alienating fans would be to not require them to have to pay $300+ to continue supporting your series.
