Platinum Games Shigenori Nishikawa was expressed an interest in MadWorld 2, saying that the studio would "definitely" be up for another round of the blood-soaked Wii game that everybody talked about but nobody actually bought.
"I think MadWorld was very well received and was acknowledged for its innovative graphical style and gameplay," he said. "We would definitely be interested in making a sequel in the future."
Whether or not we get a MadWorld 2 is matter for the Gods to decide, but if a sequel ever arrives, it would probably be best to put it on a console where it will actually sell, rather than the Wii. MadWorld was a critical success but a commercial flop, while the studio's latest game, Bayonetta, appears to be doing very well on the 360 and PS3.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Truer words have not been spoken.
The failings of the Metroid Prime Trilogy is the proverbial nail in the coffin for the Wii at this point. Anyone that sees the massive hardware sales on the Wii and gets dollar signs appearing in the back of their minds and visions of swimming pools filled with gold coins are utterly delusional.
Not only are the PS3 and 360 superior in hardware, they've also stolen Nintendo's waggle gimmick [even if it does suck...though let's see what happens, I suppose.] so all Nintendo is left holding the bag with tons of shovelware and a vast consumer base that doesn't give a damn about playing games often enough or even enough sense to know what a good game is...
And don't get me wrong, I'm sure the average to hardcore gamers would play the Wii, but we're all drowning in good titles on the PS3 and 360 at the moment with no signs of it letting up. Our wallets have already been hijacked and there's just no room for Nintendo right now. I'm sure people will make room for the next Mario, Zelda, SSB, and Metroid, but that's all Nintendo's had for years now, so eh...I'm not hurting from a lack of waggle in my life. But developers are hurting from a lack of sales, and they know where to go to get them and its not with Nintendo, at least not right now.
It has a commercial featuring La Roux. It can not fail.
And, ya know, it may be a good game on the side.
I'd buy it if they did it.
I'll buy the sequel the day it comes out, but I don't know whether I want it back on the Wii or not...
And why not put it on the Wii? It sold well enough for a sequel, obviously.
Oh, and less quick-time events. Some of them were fun to watch, but I didn't like having to shake the wii remote and nunchuck like I was jerking off 2 dudes at once.
...Also, I am also anti-"The Wii cannot possibly sell hardcore games look at these compilations of old games and B List titles WHY AREN'T THEY SELLING" but...Madworld would benefit from a lack of motion controls. Just saying.
Oh, it's far too late to be waiting for that flood. It's happening already.
I think the original Madworld, as is, with the waggle "normalized" for traditional controllers, would get eviscerated by the standards Core console games are held to.
No Multiplayer
Only 4-5 hours of linear levels
Sparse moveset when compared to Bayonetta/GoW/Devil May Cry
... unless you didn't charge $60 for it.
Would be interesting to see, but like NMH, I think it plays to the Wii's strengths/weaknesses very well. Gestures just seemed right with the brutal style.
- The monochrome graphics
As beautiful, unique, refreshing and stylish as the game's visuals are, it proved to be a turn off to a lot of gamers.... kind of like Okami (I am a fan of both Mad World & Okami's cell-shaded visuals by the way) .
- Short length with little to no replay value
This was perhaps the nail in the coffin for MadWorld in my opinion. The game is just too short and the attempt to add more content by adding a shallow, tacked on multiplayer mode was simply disappointing and offering replay value through the use of a frusterating and cheap hard mode was quite pointless.
- Repetitive gameplay
Even before you get halfway through the game, you've essentially seen and done everything that the game has to offer. It doesn't throw any new surprises except for a cool last boss battle cut scene that sadly ends up being an undwhelming fight with an anti-climatic ending to match.
- The story
Personally, I didn't care for the story at all. It just tried to be edgy, smart and bad ass and it wasn't.
It hurts me to say this to one of the coolest developers out there, but Platinum Games just doesn't seem to much talent for good story telling with perhaps the exception of Okami (but even that game suffered quite a bit due to the game's length). As a more recent example, I saw my sister's boyfriend beat Bayonetta and while the gameplay was fun and cool, the story simply sucked.
On the bright side, I thought the game's controls were very well done (except for the ocassional overuse of waggle during some of the boss fight QTEs). I also enjoyed the game's soundtrack (despite the looping) with the exception of one particularly annoying girly song. I also really liked the stylish graphics too and some of the mini games like the bottle rockets.
...AND WON'T LET GO OF MY HAND
I can go all day.
I'd love to see a Madworld 2 multiplat (all three), as I think the visual style would look fantastic in HD, and also, it would serve as a very interesting experiment when comparing Wii and PS3/360 sales.
I'd buy a Madworld 2. I really enjoyed the controls, so I would prefer a Wii version...but I would pick it up on PS3 if that was my only option.
Sterling just likes to get the fanboys riled up, that's why you see him post all the negative Wii news when there is some to post for the day.
Anyways, hopefully they are listening, if there was one game (beside No More Heroes) that deserves a sequel, it is this game.
