PopCap Games went outside of their Peggle comfort zone with the quirky tower defense title, Plants vs. Zombies. Their risk is now their reward -- Plants vs. Zombies is a financial success. So successful, actually, that PopCap can now claim it as the most lucrative game in their heroin-laced library. Ever.
“At this very early point in its history, it’s the best-selling game PopCap’s ever had,” PopCap PR man Garth Chouteau recently told Gamasutra.
Mind is blown. We weren’t shy in lauding the innovative and entirely too addictive title, but a new IP crushing Peggle so soon? That’s like killing a zombie giant with a fire sling or something.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Perhaps it's the large "hardcore" demographic that enjoyed this game more than Peggle and Co. that made up for it?
I showed this game to all of my friends who don't play very many games and they all went home and bought it. They love it, it's probably the most time they've spent playing video games since the N64.
I think that PvZ appeals to the more intelligent casual gamer. While Peggle is easy to pick up, PvZ provides a greater sense of accomplishment for those who would easily get bored with Peggle.
I still wish I hadn't played it from 2 pm until 11:30 pm yesterday, though.
Perhaps they mean the rate of sales and not total sales?
This also needs to come to XBLA....I'd play through it again from scratch
I also find it REALLY hard to believe it out sold Bejeweled already. This has to be units projected or something along those lines.
if its lifetime sales across all platforms and its still beaten bejewelled/peggle already i will eat my balls
Did they eat this game up after all, or did the hardcore just do to PopCap what the casuals did to Nintendo?
I can has Iphone portz plzz >_>
I guess you are right, but its not like its the fucking GBA
What?? Did they ever have the Indie Label?? Ever since Bejeweled, my newsletters from them have all been titled "Popcap: The leading world-seller and king of the casual market".
Where'd you get that idea?
PopCap still uploads under "Indie" on Steam.
