Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle en route to Android photo

Mere hours after our very own Tara Long lamented the sorry state of the Android App Store, PopCap has revealed that they are heeding the call.  PopCap's Jeff Green uploaded to Twitter the above images of Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle running on an Android device. Green later revealed that the games will not be ad-supported.

Great news for me. Having just made the jump from a Blackberry to an Android phone, I'm ready for more quality games to be released on the platform. And there are few games which can convince me to cough up cash like Plants vs. Zombies. Hopefully, they'll follow the trend of their other ports and add some exclusive modes or gameplay elements for the Android versions, though I suppose I would understand if they simply stuck to what worked on the iOS.

Peggle or Pokemon?

Plants Vs Zombies or Jungle/Desert Strike?

Hell my Android phone can run Final Fantasy 7 through a PSx emulator!

Seriously, who needs "phone games" when you've got an Android. Android's shit phone games.

Except Game Dev Story. The one and only "phone game"on my phone.

@Sexualchocolate: People who don't want to run emulators? People who would like to see the Android app store develop into a platform on which developers can release quality content and profit from it? I can think of lots of people who need "phone games" when they have an Android.

But the emus are on the android marketplace!

Free or paid for.

@Sexualchocolate For Android to legitimately grow as a platform (forget the fact it outsells iOS, when there's that many handsets running Android it's bound to happen) the market needs to be packed full of the same standard of games the populate the App Store.

Of the 200,000+ Android handsets connected per day what percentage of those users know how to use an emulator? I'd wager not that many. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to explain to other Android users how I have Super Mario 3 on my Desire HD.

A lot of the ports across platforms have been lazy, rushed efforts. Hopefully PopCap will put the required effort in.

That's fair enough guys, it's easy to forget that people just buy what they think of as a "phone" and then figure out what it can do later, if at all.

I personally had a list of apps I needed and ROMs etc before my phone even arrived!

Guess i'm just a bit of a nerd.

Although saying that, if you put "Game boy" into the Market place, you'll get the GBA emu app, with full instructions on how to put games etc on it. unless you're one of those (generally 50+) people who is scared of the interwebs.

personally this culture of "learn nothing, follow instructions and do what you're told" that recent "simplification" of technology has brought about does nothing for me, but i suppose it allows the masses to get hold of a bit of cool stuff, just so long as those who know where to look and how to find can still find all the extra stuff then it's all good.

I really loved the Demos I played of both Peggle and Plants v. Zombies. However, I never purchased either one because I just didn't see myself using my precious gaming time on those games when I have a stack of retail games still to complete (Red Dead Revolver, Fable 3, Dead Rising 2 etc..)

For my gaming habits, it made more sense for me for something like this to be portable. Now it is!

I guess that's a long winded way of saying imma buy the shit outta this.

Also, emulators without physical buttons? Forget it.

@Sexualchocolate: Your assumption that people who would willingly choose not to use emulators on their phones are doing so out of ignorance is a logical fallacy. I don't give a damn about being able to play SNES games I'm already able to play on pretty much any platform I want to.

Why do we need more emulators on more devices? I'm not condemning them, I just don't think they should be the go-to for people to say, "welp, I have everything I could ever need from my device because I have these thousands of games designed for some other device." That's just stupid.

So, no, I'm not buying or otherwise downloading an emulator for my Android phone. I want to have experiences on my mobile device which are designed for my mobile device, not some hackjob port of a game I've already played.

That's fair enough Conrad, more power to you.

"pretty much any platform you want to" though, we're talking platforms in your pocket right? Cuz i don't have many platforms in my pocket all the time, well 2, and being as though 1 is a legit PSP, my SNES / GENESIS / PS1 is kinda limited to in the house, or on my phone.

Personally though, i'd rather drop 2 files onto my memory card, download an emulator from the Marketplace and play pokemon with perfectly servicable on screen buttons. Than play either PvZs or Peggle.

Also, Peggle wasn't designed specifically to be played on your phone.

You know what though, Peggle i would maybe actually play. But not enough to buy it, plus i already have it on Steam.

The version of Peggle developed by PopCap for Android will be the one designed specifically to be played on the Android platform. Which is what I'm getting at, but I appreciate the attempt to verbally wrestle.

And again, why would I need that emulators in my pocket? Gaming on a phone is, to me, about short and quick convenience. Instant gratification games for while I'm standing in a line or waiting for a bus. Plus, you cannot deny that emulated gaming on a phone is a vastly inferior experience even to playing them emulated on handhelds specifically designed for gaming, let alone an actual PC (or, God forbid, original hardware).

I just don't see the point other than to wave your dick around and say, "I have all these games and I didn't have to pay for them, look how cool I am." And you're clearly into waving your dick around, so that's awesome for you. Doesn't work for me.

@Conrad, just for the record, I paid for all of them, I bought the games back on the GBA/PS1 and I paid for the emulators too.

I just have a general disdain for phone games. I've tried many and liked very few. Even the good ones have an extremely limited playtime before they get boring.

Like i say, PERSONALLY I would prefer to play an emulated GBA game than a true phone game. Myself, i would rather have on screen buttons and all that other "sub-par" jazz than what is essentially a fleshed out flash game.

That's just my personal preference is all.

Obviously Game Dev Story is the exception to the whole thing, man I physically CANNOT play that game for less than.... well as long as fucking possible! Generally until my battery is gone!

Finally PopCap! When I switched to Android (Galaxy S) from an iPhone 3GS the only thing I missed in the transition was Peggle on the go. Reading articles from 2 years ago it seemed that PopCap games have been a long time coming to the Android Market. What the hell has taken them so long to do this? They must really hate money. I know this is anecdotal, but all my "gamer" friends (you know, people who actually spend a lot of money on games) have Android phones, while people like my brother-in-law and my girlfriend's sister have iPhones, and all they do is download bubble popping apps and fake guitars and crappy gimmick apps. Alot of my friends with Android phones have emulators and play Zenonia and are really looking into playing real games on thesephones. It seems like such an untapped market. Where the hell are all the Android games like SSFIV and Sonic and whatever else is on iPhone. It seems like they would be easy ports. And the Galaxy S is capable of 3 TIMES the graphics processing power of the iPhone 4... where is our Infinity Blade with better graphics? There are over 10 million Galaxy S owners now! Mobile game developers need to get off Apple's dick and start fondling gamers' balls.

For Android to accurately abound as a belvedere (forget the actuality it outsells iOS, back there's that Pass4sure HP0-Y35 abounding handsets active Android it's apprenticed to happen) the bazaar needs to be arranged abounding of the aforementioned accepted of amateur the abide the App Store Pass4sure BCP-620.

Of the 200,000+ Android handsets affiliated per day what allotment of those users apperceive how to use an emulator? I'd action not that many. I've absent calculation of the bulk of times I've had to explain to added Android users Pass4sure TB0-116 how I accept Super Mario 3 on my Desire HD.

A lot of the ports beyond platforms accept been lazy, rushed efforts. Hopefully PopCap will put the appropriate accomplishment in Pass4sure 000-048.
