Plan on seeing Criterion's Need for Speed game next year photo

The revitalization of Need for Speed as a franchise must be going well, because the Criterion-developed NFS game is very much alive and kicking. You can look, but you can't touch. Wait, no -- you can't look either. Damn.

Based on what EA Games label president Frank Gibeau said today during a conference call, we can expect the game to come out next year. He noted that the project "has been under development now for some time," which leads me to believe this is what Criterion has been doing alongside the Burnout DLC. Ah-hah!

I am curious beyond belief to see if Criterion will be opting for an open-world setting similar to Burnout Paradise, or if they'll take us back to the days of linear racing. Either way, I'm stoked. Stoked, I tell you!

Criterion, where are my planes!?

I really don't need to wait for first-looks, previews or reviews. This game will be awesome and I will buy it.

As cool as this sounds, I think Criterion should get around to releasing BLACK 2 sometime this generation

Open-world would be ideal. It was the turning point in the series.

I look forward to seeing this. After all of the support Criterion gave to Burnout, especially the FREE DLC, they've become on of my favorite developers. Whatever they do with Need for speed, they can count me in.

If anyone can squeeze the best out of the NfS franchise, it's Criterion. It'll be interesting to see if it apes any of the existing games in either series. It's almost certainly going to be a no-brainer. Though my mind has to ask "what on Earth can they do to make yet another improvement on Burnout??!".
