Pixart making more chips and sensors for the next Wii, more of the same coming photo

According to the DigiTimes, Pixart Imaging will begin “sampling” MEMS chips for the next Wii late this year. Pixart will also be expected to produce more infrared solutions for Nintendo, as the next console will be using the same infrared capabilities of the Wii.

In addition to being the supplier of sensor supplies for Nintendo, Pixart is most known for the brilliant movie, Toy Story. For those unaware, Toy Story is a delightful tale of adventure revolving around a ranch hand and a cowboy in Wyoming. Together, they fight crime and help to save a kidnapped girl’s life in Mexico.

If this report turns true, it’s interesting to note that Nintendo will continue moving in much the same direction with its next console. We’ve yet to hear any reports on graphical prowess, but we’re sure that Nintendo won’t fail to disappoint that core audience they care about so much.

I think you are either spelling Pixar wrong or (most likely) you are thinking of two completely different companies.

I'm confused (ignoring the Pixar thing).

I thought (from the source) that Pixart were basically becoming a competitive supplier of the motion detector for the current Wii? And that they supply the IR stuff already, and are looking into making the motion detection stuff (MEMS) too.

Also, for people who don't know what MEMS are:

Ah the sensor bar has nothing to do with the "shaking" as you put it. Its for IR pointing not motion controls as that done by the accelerometers. The IR pointing in the Wiimote is one of the best things that Nintendo did this generation.

IR poining better be in the next Nintendo console it would be a shame if it wasn't. I don't get the point of this article why would this be a bad thing? More of same when the same is good is a good thing!

Yay! They still care about us!

I'm sure it just takes a really, really, really, long time for Nintendo to create quality Mario Party games...

That's why we didn't get one for a whole couple of months... Mario Party is the coreist coretastic core game ever!

Guess I'll have to just play Ponyz or Babyzsz while I wait...

Not like there's tons of games that's making my wallet cry coming out for the Xbox360 or PC anytime soon... Yeah...

On a more serious note, let's hope the Nintendo's next console, the Nintendo Us, will have much better sensing ability, not to mention enforce a visuals standard...

The pixart thing is just a really AWFUL joke, there's nothing to get people, Brad was just failing at being funny.

meh more I-wanna-be-Jim articles

explaining what involvement pixart had with wii instead of writing boring jokes would make a better article, you know...

Hey, don't be cruel. I'm sure when the new Wii comes out it'll be roughly half as powerful as a 360. It might even have digital audio!

When all three consoles have motion-sensing, is the Wii really going to look that stupid?

I agree with Nihon. Everyone already wants to copy Nintendo, so I guess it's more full of awesome than you think, huh?

Geez, more front-page Wii-bashing articles. Not surprised by this point.

I think the next console from Nintendo will use similar controllers, current ones will probably be backwards compatible. I'd expect more powerful sensor bar, better speaker in the remote, MotionPlus included in the controller ...Maybe another button... I dunno. I think the branding will remain the same, input the same. Graphics probably a 'suped up 360' to mirror the current situation. And I'll love it.

I think who ever said this is a 'I-wanna-be-Jim' post nailed it. And really the 'Nintendo doesn't care about you' thing is really getting old. The majority of garbage on the Wii is from third parties and because Nintendo is now catering to two markets the 'hardcore' are whimpering like rejected 12yr olds at an elementary school dance.

I'm pretty tired of it, and to see it anywhere other than forums and comments is just sad now.

Are Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3 any less amazing because they are on the Wii? They were two of the best games in 07. 08 doesn't looks great for Wii but of course, these games take time to create and if Nintendo can pump out 3 'Wii' branded 'casual' games in between for funding- so be it.
