Pitchford talks Borderlands' level cap, DLC, and more photo

There's an interview with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford up on Game Informer an--actually, it's not so much an interview as it is him telling us everything we want to hear and so much more. Seriously.

For starters, the question of future add-ons increasing the level cap for Borderlands was raised. "We’re working on it. I would not be surprised if we are able to offer that in the future, but at this point I can’t make any promises."

But what about some method for storing guns beyond our character's inventory? "We know that some people are interested in that, and we’re working on that," says the Gearbox president and founder.

Wow, really? Alright, here's a good one. The main storyline for Borderlands was sort of, well, it was practically non-existent. That can't possibly be addressed in "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned," can it? "In some cases," says Pitchford, "I think the story [in the first DLC pack] is more cohesive and stronger than the main story in Borderlands."

Okay, you win. I'm going to go ahead and shut up now.

What the hell do you mean you can promise a level cap raise? That was half the reason I wanted the DLC in the first place. Zombie Island better raise the cap, or we just might have to take this outside.

A level cap raise t'would be nice but not a game breaker at all. Heaven forbid you cant max the bejeezus otu of your character!

This DLC is one that I am for sure buying!

Pitchford is a douche - how about you work on a blasted PC patch already instead of DLC for the consoles. As it stands, Borderlands for the PC is a nice $50 coaster. Lying douchebag - ya optimizations and a game built specifically for PC my ass

Well, Borderlands does have many awesome PC specific features. Like ingame text chat, adjustable graphics or mouse control (almost, as mouse control in menus isn't fully implemented).

Sounds very similar to Fallout 3. In fact, this whole game seems too similar to Fallout 3. Which is why I'm not playing it. But on the issue the game doesn't look like it needs a level cap raise. Fallout 3 certainly didn't.

More story would be great and some NPCs with some personality like Fallout 3...no dialogue trees plz. NPCs in Borderlands are just mission logs.

Raising the level cap and adding storage for items via DLC? Funny, weren't Fallout 3 and Dragon Age ripped for doing hose things?

michael brown, yes fallout 3 needed a level increase. did you even play it.
as for being like fallout, the game is fast and frantic with millions of guns and class mods as well as skills. the game is like diablo 2 had sex with a good fps and had a kid that right out of the womb smocked a cig in your face bitch slapped diablos tits out of its mouth while grabbing a bottle of JD and telling diablo 2 to make it a samich.

Yes, I've played and beaten Fallout 3, playing it again now. And I can honestly say Fallout 3 didn't need a level cap increase. It's system wasn't as deep as the previous 2 Fallout games and by level 20 you should have all the skills you want to have. It wouldn't have bothered me at all if Fallout 3 was a straight up FPS. And I never liked Diablo.

can't people just play for fun with the new DLC. Why does there always have to be some new level to obtain.

i want to play as a ninja robot, and slay demons, in a fully detailed and nail biting storyline, with a level cap of 82.

Everyone is complaining about the bugs in this game, but Fallout 3 crashed on me over and over and over. And I got stuck in rocks, and I couldn't finish quests, etc. etc. It just seemed so much buggier to me. Either way, I love them both although bugs/glitches are frustrating.

I don't give a crap, this looks totally awesome, and I'm going to buy and download it regardless, and if they make MORE dlc that raises the level cap, I'll buy that too.
This game is freaking awesome and totally deserves it. I need more. I HAVE AN ADDICTION I TELL YOU.

Adam11, I have no idea what in the world you're doing with that game, but I played over 100 hours and had maybe one crash. I played all the DLC, played through the main quest, and did multiple playthroughs with good/evil characters.

Pitchford has lost tons of credibility with what he said about the PC version of BL and what was actually released. Peter Molyneux would be proud.

mabman: How about you get your PC-playing buddies to buy more copies of the game? Considering how much smaller the market is for PC games of this sort when compared to consoles and how much more extensive the testing is given the huge array of hardware configurations you really should be happy that you're getting anything at all. If it were my company I'd probably avoid the problem entirely because the profit opportunities are low and even when you get a moderate hit on your hands all of the "fans" are whining douchelords.

You might gain a bit of sympathy if you guys weren't such douchenozzles all the time about how "superior" your precious PC gaming is, when clearly it's not. Maybe you should just give it up like the rest of the world, games are more fun on the couch anyway.

Michael Brown: It's not like Fallout 3 at all. In some ways I wish it were more like Fallout and others I'm glad it's not, but they're entirely different games with superficial similarities.

"So...whats the point of playing the DLC if Im at 50." - Start a new character? There are 3 others you know. If you already have 4 LVL 50 characters, you may have played quite enough BL for now.

@Micheal Brown - If you've played both of these games (FO3 & BL) and feel they are alike, you aren't very a very bright person.... About the only thing they have in common is the ability to fight from a FPS perspective.

Also, F03s skill and perk system was obviously NOT originally designed with any type of level cap expansion possiblity and raising the cap to 30 frankly lets you be a demi-god. BLs current level cap of 50 gives you 45 skill points out of a possible 110 skill point max. There is obviously room for a level increase with the current skill system (tho, if increased too much, the demi-god possibilty will become an issue). I think LVL 75 (70/1110 points) would be a theoretical max,

Many PC gamers play on a couch, and i don't believe that most console gamers are douche bags, and most PC gamers aren't either. Calling out a small population is ridiculous and Mabamn has a valid point. I'm sorry if you are too angry or ignorant to see it. After all most PC gamers do play on console so we know more about the industry in general; as console players only play the indie titles off PC at the most.

Fact: Games on PC look better.

I'm not a douche bag or acting superior for stating a fact. But I have to say there is always one of you console people that has to rag on the PC side for no reason.

Fact 2: Borderlands was SOLD to the PC market. It doesn't work as intended. As a RIGHT TO THE CONSUMER these things should be fixed.

Take your small penis anger out somewhere else. Almost everything plays better on PC except split screen stuff, and PC gaming is cheaper.

Borderlands is not a great game, the DLC should be free to make it worth the $$ any PC OR Console gamer pays.
