I have my share of bad games that i love <3
So they do have a lot in common.
I've had plenty of opportunities to buy the game for the low price of $5, but even then I keep hesitating because for similar prices I can get a guaranteed awesome experience (Borderlands GOTY was $7.49 recently, Metro 2033 is $5, etc).
However, I fear that one day I will purchase DNF, and that will be a dark day indeed.
Unless the game contains giant, purple dildo bats and bad fart jokes then they love that shit.
Both are generally up to the standards of their development time, but unlike Duke Nukem Forever,Half-Life 2 wasn't stuck in Development Hell until a dozen or so years after its tech and design were cutting edge before release.
Now,that statement will be completely accurate were he referring to Half-Life 3,that is, if Half-Life 3 ever comes out.
Lets be honest here though.. Was the humor really that funny in the original Duke games?
@Trist
Guy has the right to defend his work, but that doesn't diminish a customers right to point out how bad it was or how crazy he is for continuing to push a dead horse.
"some folks, they've asked me a question - and I'm a pretty transparent guy. I'll just talk to you and I'll say what's on my mind - but then they'll take what I've said and they'll put it as if I'm trying to publish a statement. Like, this is something Randy wants to tell the world. It's like, no, I was just having a conversation where someone asked me a question and I answered it.
And sometimes they'll take the little bit that might seem like it's gonna scratch someone the wrong way, and make that the headline because there's a hope it might drum up some extra interest that the printing of a standard interview might not otherwise drum up. "
Seem, familiar? Anyways, before some of you start hating on him and everything he stands for, maybe read the article in question first? provided some good insight, for his reasons...
Well when you are having a "discussion" with a major gaming outlet, and some one is recording your conversation for the sake of writing a article, one could easily conclude that your statements will be published on the internet....
@all the half life 2 haters.... FUCK YALL. Half life 2 is still a higher quality single player game than 99% of the brown of doody modern warfield games coming out these days.
But I understand what Randy's saying about the puzzle stuff and gameplay formula.
But I doubt that is Gearbox's fault. The thing was tossed around between developers for 15 years.
He's not pushing anything at all, he's responding candidly and honestly to a question someone asked him, and everyone is acting like he called a press conference just to disagree with them about his game. It's silly bullshit.
DNF supplemented its crappy gameplay--which, incidentally, was a lot less polished than (almost) anything Valve's ever published--with generic one-liners and a lot of crude "humor." The comparison's apt, in that DNF shared one of its weaknesses with a superior game, but the similarities pretty much end there.
"So, let me get this straight. The guy who hosts Podtoid is calling out Duke Nukem for unfunny, disturbing and desperate attempts at comedy? I'm a fan of Podtoid, but this comes off as hypocritical coming from Jim."
I can't cook but I can till recognize bad food.
Yep... this pretty much says all I had to say about the game... well, minus giving it a score (given a choice)....
...actually he gives a good railing to the gaming media as well... which they kinda need.
I agree it was a very similar setup and pacing to a halflife game. Never once does he say its as good or better than half life he just said it was similar. Just shows that you havent played the game if your jimmies get rustled by this article.
