Pikmin and other GameCube games re-releasing on the Wii

Pikmin and other GameCube games re-releasing on the Wii photo
     GameCube

Tons of info was just revealed at the Nintendo Fall Press Conference held in Japan and one of the highlights was the announcement of the new "Wii de Asobu Selection", which translates to Play on Wii Selection. Nintendo will be re-releasing classic GameCube games for the Wii starting with the original Pikmin

It's rather odd that that Nintendo is focusing on porting old GameCube games since, you know, the thing actually plays GameCube games. But hey, Capcom seems to be having a successful run with the Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 remakes with waggle controls so I guess it just boils down to whatever prints them money.

Wouldn't it just be HILARIOUS if this GameCube remake is the Pikmin game Miyamoto was referring to at E3?!

I hope this is just to compliment a new Pikmin game, the same way Megaman 1&2 were released on the VC before Megaman 9.

If not, then screw it. I've still got my old GC disc...

Oh and, all Miyamoto said was:

"We’re making Pikmin."

This could very well be the Wii Pikmin game.

You and I apparently have divergent definitions of hilarity. Sarcasm and snark though, I think we're on the same page.

Nintendo has gone completely batshit crazy. Re-releasing Gamecube games....really? If any of you re-buy those Gamecube games then bitch about how Nintendo doesn't do anything new and exciting anymore... you should jump off a bridge.

Nintendo has figured out that you are retarded and would buy piece of man-shit as long as it had a familiar Nintendo character stuck to it.

The only way I would laugh to that being the pikmin being made for the wii is if I were sobbing hysterically.

Pretty excited for Punch Out though. Needs moar Mother 3 and Kid Icarus though.

Oh sure Hamza, that would be hilarious...let's hope it's not the case.

Also, I have to wonder if they're just going to keep producing them on Gamecube discs, just with different packaging indicating that they work on Wii.

hey I don't mind getting updated wii versions of gamecube games, i skipped that crappy console anyway. And they'll probably be not only budget priced, but improved in some way or another.

In many ways, some of the gems nintedo made for gamecube were ahead of their time (in their casual-gamingness), and would cater better to Nintendo's newfound audience. Like myself.

rehash gaming FTW. Rather have them remade than lost in time.

Reprinting the Gamecube discs I can understand, but slapping it on a Wii DVD with added waggle? No thanks.

there are two sides to this...if they make it a good port, sell it cheap, and minimize the crap out of the waggle I'll be all for it.

other than that...I'd rather see them make some new games instead of spending their time/money on Pikmin 2: Waggle Edition

Might be a good chance to pick up some GC games that were a bitch to get over here, and are still stupidly expensive second-hand. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was a favourite on rental for my missus, but I flatly refuse to pay full retail for it.

Wow people love to complain just for the sake of complaining these days! What the hell do you think the new Pikmin 3 is going to be? Its just going to be a sequel with pointer functionality AKA "waggle" to people like you.

If you love Pikmin so much then you'd think you would be happy that Nintendo is bringing back the franchise that you love to a whole new audience, but no you have to look at it like its wrong. If you don't like it then don't buy them again, and just wait for the true sequel when it comes out!

If it supports 60Hz mode, then it will please my European heart. This is a good thing for people who have a hard time finding classic Gamecube games these days. No one is forcing you others into buying it.

Package it together with Pikmin 2 on one disc then we have a deal.

Look at Mother 1+2 in Japan. That is almost done right.

Metroid Prime 1+2 could also work.

Also I approve of Wind Waker port if it's reworked to include more dungeons.

I think it is more of a re-release than a remake with waggle. I'd also assume they will be at a bugdet price. I never could find a copy of Pikmin over here so I'd pick it up at a fair price.
It seems to be aimed at people who don't already have the games, which is a lot based on the GCs popularity.

If they add in Wii controls, this could be good. Several Gamecube games like Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin could have benefitted from them.

monkeyspoon5: I'd approve of Windwaker port if they had a hard difficulty setting that had any challenge whatsoever.

Where are people getting the idea that these are in any way "ports" though? Or that they'll be coming out on full-size DVDs?

With the information released so far I don't see any reason to believe that they won't just be the original GameCube discs repackaged in a white box with a "Plays on Wii" sticker in the corner?

Seriously, why even have a "Plays on Wii" brand if they were going to do any porting or make the discs look native? It's not like most Wii owners would even notice that it was the same game being re-released from 6 years ago.
