Pikachu can see your insides: Pokemon X-ray machine photo

Mobile X-ray machines are scary to Japanese children, I guess. But Pokemon aren't. So that's why Japanese company Shimadzu has created a Pokemon-themed X-ray machine, using art from the game Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Being shown off at places like Image Synthesis Exhibition 2009, Shimadzu Corp's would likely be used on infants who probably can't even recognize Pokemon, let alone know what the hell an X-ray machine is doing to them. But Shimadzu's press release (Japanese) says that the images of Pikachu and pals should ease their fear.

Me? My fear has increased: is Pokemon now so big that it has a place in medical technology? What next? Will we be sticking our heads in a giant pokeball for a brain scan?

Whats even scarier is the thought of one day putting a breast in a charizards mouth to check for lumps.

Medical Tech + Pokemans = scary future

X-ray machines are supposed to be scary! I mean fuck, they bombard your body with radiation! They kill off a good amount of blood cells!

Now they have a pokemon themed x-ray machine? How cruel and deceiving. The kids will laugh and smile at Pikachu while the souless machine behind the mask of pikachu slowly depletes your life. And when the child soons learns that pikachu and the other cute friendly pokemons just infected him with radiation poisoning, they'll shit themselves in fear and horror. They'll never look at another pokemon the same way again...

I think it's a good way of relieving some of the overall anxiety of the process with something cute and cuddly on the machine as even a minor distraction. I'm haunted by creepy renditions of Mickey Mouse and other cartoon characters painted on the walls of certain doctor's offices that were attempting the same effect when I was a kid, I wish they had this back then.

If the machine had a short circuit and zapped the poor soul in the machine, would they blame Pikachu? That would be quite silly. Also, I feel bad for the girl in that picture, she seems to believe that this entire concept is screwed up.

Also, anesthesia will become Bulbasaur's sleeping powder. See it coming in the near future.

That's pretty awesome. They should stick a joy buzzer on your arm throughout the procedure to simulate the electric shock illuminating your bones through your skin. That would be both the scariest and greatest childhood experience ever.

They should make a Fallout 3 themed one.
