Phantom Hourglass TV spotfest

10:38 AM on 06.07.2007   |   Jim Sterling

Behold, courtesy of Jeux-France, delicious TV spots for Nintendo's DS chapter in the venerable Legend of Zelda series, The Phantom Hourglass. Both the above video and the one contained after the jump show off the stylus controls that bring classic Zelda actions - such as the spin slash and boomerang throw - to life.

While the sole use of the stylus is interesting, I remain quietly apprehensive about it working in practice. Tapping the screen to make your Animal Crossing character move around, for example, was more an inconvenience than anything else, but if any title's going to get it right, it'll be one of Nintendo's most treasured franchises. Hit the jump for the second video. HYUP! HYUP! HYARR!

Hm. It's working okay here. Anyone else got a problem with the vids?

Both worked fine for me. I like the look of it too. I'm a bit worried about the reliance on the stylus for movement, but I also didn't like it when there was no manual jumping in Ocarina of Time.

These commercials aren't very creative, but I'm still eagerly awaiting the release!

From previews from people who have played demoes of this, I've heard that the controls actually work pretty well. I was a little wary of the touch screen controls for Zelda as well, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I'd rather use the stylus to control Link. Switching back and forward between stylus and the control pad is annoying for Harvest Moon.
