Phantasy Star Universe gets expansion in November, no one seems to notice photo

Ambition of the Illuminus, the upcoming expansion for Phantasy Star Universe, will be available for download via Xbox Live November 20th for $20. However, if you don't have an Xbox and want to play it for PS2 or PC, the retail version will set you back $39.95. Seems unfair somehow, doesn't it? All this just to go chat with Japanese players disguised as cat people speaking unintelligible English.

I am a hardcore Phantasy Star fan from its Genesis days, so anything with Phantasy Star in the title has garnered my interest since. I was actually disgusted when I tried to play this game. Not only was the interface initially confusing and odd, but the people playing the game when I logged in made annoying WoW players look like the most pleasant people you've ever met. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but frankly I think this MMO series is mostly unplayed for a reason.

I've got a friend who is into this hardcore.
But, I can't help but think that screen shot looks like something I'd see from Final Fantasy X before sin destroy's stuff with his hugeness.

I played it for a month or so before the soul-crushing grind finally wore me down.

...then again, I don't do very well with MMOs.

I played hardcore for a few months. Then got banned. I'm thinking about getting this for the 360 though, as it fixes most of the problems.

- Including bringing back maps from PSO :D Fuck yeah!
- Slicers & Mags
- Protransers no longer horribly crap

Don't bother with the PC or PS2 versions unless you're interested in getting your account hacked constantly while SEGA does absolutely nothing besides take a shit on your face.

And by taking a shit on your face I mean giving better support and exclusive items for the 360 version.

Wow, I actually played this game for a bit. I was thinking about busting it out and actually finishing the single player mode.

I've never played a Phantasy Star game, but I really like the idea of a full solo rpg game with a complete online, mmo-ish, component. Maybe the next Square-Enix MMO game could be something like that - full Final Fantasy RPG single player expereince, and full FFXI mmo mode (but with all the faults of that game fixed)

It can be pretty fun... I hear this expansion's making it a lot less shit too.

This game is great. The expansion is only gonna make it better. MAGS are back and The PSO maps are gonna be awesome.

I used to play PSO on the Dreamcast, and I really enjoyed my time on there. Although i havent picked up PSU just yet, im kinda enticed as of now. I held off for so long because of the extra things you have to do in order to play.

I've though about it, and may just join the bandwagon.

It's a bad sign when it's more fun and rewarding to play the original PSO than this.

I'd just like to take yet another opportunity to shit all over this game; it's just not fun. I found the grind online for money and synthesis items horrible, and I play Final Fantasy XI. Sega gimped the offline game to hell. I mean, you can wear three or four different outfits. Why would they do that to us after giving us that amazing character creation process? I can't even play it anymore without getting pissed off at all the things they kept for the online mode.

bluemeep is right, PSO is a far greater game, despite having significantly less features.

I really wanted to love this game; it seemed like a no-brainer before it was released. But playing the game is an exercise in trying to find some fun, only to end up finding nothing.

This game costs too much to play per month, not worth it.
