Phantasy Star Portable will make you poor, but at least the demo is free photo

According to the boys at PSPFanboy, the Phantasy Star Portable official website was updated today with some decent information. The free demo, scheduled to release in Japan on July 14, is going to be a bit hefty. At a whopping 301 MB, it will provide players early access to both the Story Mode and online play. The demo will be available to download off of the Japanese PSN store, or at your local Japanese videogame vender.

Also, there is apparently some utterances of character profiles and downloadable content to be listed on the website soon. For those of us that can’t speak Japanese, checking out the website may be a bit of an issue. Don’t worry about that quite yet, though, because Sega hasn’t announced if the game is going to be localized.

There is still hope that the game will hop the pond. The reception of Phantasy Star titles hasn’t been that terrible in the states. Personally, my level of excitement is at critical mass. If Phantasy Star Portable hits stateside, I’ll be one of the first Americans to visit, presumably, one of the bulbous lobbies full of people tossing out emoticons every two seconds. Hopefully Sega is keeping the floating armchair ability for the lobbies. There’s nothing like scooting around people in circles while riding a pink chair.

Something suddenly occured to me... If there ever was a Diablo game for consoles, then it should be similar to PSO!

Why will it make you poor?

I know very little about this game. Does it have a subscription cost or something?

Looks fun, but monthy cost would make it a no go for me.

I assume it's an MMO in the spirit of PSO(which is in no way at all related to the spirit of PS, calling your money Meseta don't cut it SEGA.) So yes, it's likely to have a subscription cost.

This game is just a side-story for PSU, and will essentially share all the basic gameplay components from the online game. There'll be no photon chairs.

@realyst
It's more of an offline version of PSU. There won't be any subscription fees.

Someone compared crap like Diablo to the amazing PSO(DC/PC version is the best online RPG). WHAT THE FUCK!

....so when's PSO coming back?

If Sega actually just implement what made PSO into the PSU series, maybe PSU wouldn't suck so much.

Seriously...I want them to make a revamped PSO and lose the PSU nonsense. All they needed to do was make PSU like PSO, new weps, maybe new classes, more customization, new awesome soundtracks, new monsters, old PSO Ep I and II stages, and we'd be fine.

How about Phantasy Star 5? Who cares about these MMORPG crack addiction fests.

Let me guess, the demo will be region locked. GD I hope this hits the US, I loved the PSO on Dreamcast, the PSP is the perfect platform for a similar game.

This is not what you think it is. This is Phantasy Star Universe, not the PSO you know and love. I put over 1000 hours into PSO. But I've never even made it thru every stage of PSU... Whatever they did, it lost it's charm. Plus, no mags :/

Although it wont be online the game will have Adhoc multiplay. Meaning you can use a wifi max and xlink kai to play with tons of people around the world.

Phantasy Star hasn't been Phantasy Star since number IV. The last great one. I'll get the demo, but it would have to really impress me for a purchase, which isn't very likely.

Alot of people dont realise the old PSO is dead and wont come back, the newer PSU series though different has alot of the PSO weapons and clothes in it, it also has a timing system for attacks to make it simular to PSO combat but still gets boring, techs equiped on rods, wands and certain mags, all Techer stuff (poor hunter/ranger). People who think, hey wow a new PSO should go out of their way and try PSU before purchasing, I mean hell get the full PC version its got a Free trial period, and is the easiest MMO to level up on, all you need is a buddy to loan you the discs or find another way >.-.

PSO RULZ!!!! PSU sux!! I played for about 3 weeks. Cancelled my subscription before they got to charge me. Offline mode sucked, and no way I was paying money for a suppered up PSO.

Mainman, thanx for the heads up.

We already have Phantasy Star Portable. It's called an emulator with ROMs.

Learn from Squeenix - port the older games to newer systems with a modicum of effort.
