Phantasy Star Portable 2/Pizza Hut campaign is shameless photo

Deliciously shameless, that is! Phantasy Star Portable 2 is on the way, and Sega has revealed that it will be joining forces with Pizza Hut in order to fill the RPG with pie-based shenanigans. Just take a look at the attached imagery for proof of how tastily tasteless it will be.

A virtual Pizza Hut restaurant will set up shop in the Gurhal Galaxy, where players can buy all sorts of goodies, chief among them being Cheese-Kun (Japanese Pizza Hut mascot) figures to decorate their room with. Equipment items will also be on sale, taking the form of a pizza box shield and a pizza pan weapon. Seriously.

Of course, it wouldn't be a pizza restaurant without pizzas. Hungry gamers will be able to nab a seafood pizza for 2,500 meseta, cheese & cheese pizza for 1,900 meseta, and a coffee for 1,000 meseta. This has to be one of the most ridiculous examples of in-game advertising I've ever seen. I can't help but applaud Sega's brazen approach.

Well, if it keeps them from charging online fees this time...

Wasn't the product placement something different for Japan? Like Fanta?

Phantasy Star has always advertised like this. PSO (1/2/3/BB) has had different magazines as weapons. Hell, some of the Mags were ads too (Yahoo!, Chao, ect). Sega is just doing what they have always done in the series.

Sad, just sad. The First Phantasy Star Portable was good, now I can't even look this in the eye.

So first Code Geass has Pizza Hut boxes (and Cheese-kun) in practically half of its scenes and now this? Why can't the American Pizza Hut be this awesome? I want that weapon!

This is the Japanese advert, in Famitus for this Friday they also say that there is another company that has things like this in game. Fans if Evangelion will be happy to know there will also be some other items in the JAPANESE ver. of the game relating to that anime.

If you have played the PSO series as long as I have you will know this is not the 1st time of ingame promotions items, this is normal for Japanese games that are orpg where loot is a big deal.

Pizza hut did this before with a monster hunter promo.
You can see it here: http://www.psphyper.com/psp/monster-hunter-likes-pizza/

Phantasy Star O/U/P may have advertised this, but the classics never sullied their experience by including immersion-breaking product placement.

Product placement can be good when its funny. This is funny.

I just remembered Fanta was the other product placement revealed in PS Portable 2.

That goes good with pizza.

Pizza Hut *did* win the Franchise Wars of AU2015, so it makes sense that they would appear.

People are going to remember this game for Pizza Hut, not for what it actually does for the series. I think it's hilarious, but God I do not want fast food logos all over my Castle Crashers or anything like that.

@Electrium, this has been going on since it 1st was PSO. There is a HARDCORE fan base that still plays allot in the US and even bigger in Japan. What killed the PC version of the game was that it was linked to the PS2 players and could not have big content upgrades for players.

Well at the Sega booth at TGS, it was PSP2 sponsored by Fanta. I don't really care either way.
