Petition the UK government to give games a break (tax break, that is) photo

Usually, I don't do stories about online petitions, but usually, online petitions are written up by morons and posted where they don't matter. This particular petition, however, is actually official and provided by the UK government's own Web site, and since a friend of mine in the industry is drumming up support, I'd be an arsehole not to promote it.

We did a story a while back about possible tax incentives for the UK games industry, and this is where any British gamer can sign their name to see it happen. At the time of writing, there are 498 signatures. I'm sure the UK Dtoid readers can bump that up a notch.

So go do it.

I too would love to see, the cake takers currently in power, give the games industry a tax break. Problem is though, many of those in power still have a set perception about games, without actually investigating what they claim to be true.

So long as this games are evil and leading our children away' attitude exists, with MPs like Keith Vaz spouting bull, we will have less of a chance of seeing this happen.

Withoout one though, we can say fairwell to the U.Ks best creative talent.

I'll sign that no probs.

We don't need to see an exodus of talent leave the U.K, with Peter Molyneux with staff and Moses like. Lol.

Not only is that an awesome petition but I got an email from 10 Downing Street. Signed. We should make one about Videogame rating systems in the UK. Something to stop hot coffee situations again.

LOL@ that image, Jim. Turning propaganda into other propaganda with three letters, not bad!

What exactly have the Tories accomplished? Invading the Suez with France and Israel in '56 widely considered the last blatant attempt at militaristic european imperialism? the utterly disastrous privatization of the national railway (you can't really have free marekt competition over railways when there's only ever going to be one set of tracks!)? Selling off council housing to make yuppie condos? Or perhaps fighting over the Falkland Islands? Although Blair dumped Britain into Iraq and thats pretty much the worst mistake in contemporary British history you have to admit that every advance post-war Britain has made has been accomplished under labor governments.

And I'm not even British! just lived in London for a few years. Brits loved to talk politics and charge way too much for beer. And make me fill out 43,000 forms and what 9 weeks for a bank account or a cell phone (i hope I'm not undermining my previous post now... hmmmm...)

Government "help" to business is just as disastrous as government persecution... The great chain is too powerful and too mysterious for any government to guide.

My government just added another 4p to my pint over night to discourage me from binge drinking and then spends that money on adverts telling me to pay my taxes on time and initiatives to get me to eat less. I recon we all need tax breaks, not just one or two specific industries.

The notion of providing tax breaks to counter other countries' tax breaks just leads to a vicious circle. What are we? French?

Instead, let us challenge tax breaks given in other countries. If they are unfair, as it sounds like, then Canada (and other offending countries) will have to stop.

Sign the petition to challenge these tax breaks through WTO: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/wtochallenge/
