Phsyical disks for PC gaming doesn't quite work anymore because the market for B&M PC games just isn't there. Major retailers stock maybe 50 boxed PC titles (save the el cheapo "$10 and under" titles). The days of Babbage's and EB Games having walls of PC titles is over, sadly.

i went to buy a copy of Dark Athena this week. HMV didn't have it, and hadn't ordered any, Gamestation said they were waiting on it, as were a couple of smaller stores. Finally found a copy at Game, who had recieved it that very morning.

I buy so many games through Steam now. I could list all the reasons it's great, but you've all heard them.
I wouldn't mind if EA moved their PC games over to Steam, personally. I'd work out great... for me, at least.
