Peter Moore: New Xbox 360 in five years photo

While it seems a little early to be talking about the console wars again, hearing new tidbits to the successor of the Xbox 360 does raise an eyebrow when considering the business impact on competitors. We've heard Sony talk about the PS3's expected ten year lifespan before, so here's news on a little something Microsoft will be introducing right smack in its middle ages:

In an interview with Peter Moore, EGM grilled him about when the next one would come out, and questions about if they'd drop the X360 like a box of rocks like they did with the 360. He said that they were going to support it "as long as it sold" which is BS, because the Xbox sold well into this year despite no producting after Oct. 2005.

At any rate, he stated the production team from the 360 is working on the next Xbox, and their looking into what kind of CPUs will be available on the market in 2011-2012....

Dual 4ghz eight-core Xbox 720 with a side of terrabyte, anyone? Yum.

The guy from VGCharts needs to rewrite his analysis in English. "...despite no producting" WTF?

I'm just now looking to getting a 360 so 5 years doesn't piss me off. What will is if I get one and within 3 months they release a quieter, cooler running 360 with HDMI and a bigger HDD for XBL content.

I guess 'asscrack' wont have those annoying corners that cause anal bleeding when I wipe my ass with the Wii. It can't come soon enough..

I think that was the idea behind the concept. It may even bear that name.

There was something on Joystiq about it this morning, something about some place has leaked info, but no one has confirmed it, so its just a rumor. But IMO, I think it will happen.

Can they see into the future or something? The coment was pertaining to the X360, not the original Xbox. MS has actually shown they listen to their fanbase (on occasion), maybe they learned from last time. Nothing like criticising a company for something they might do in five years, huh?

Like Alexander said...right now it is rumor but it is more than likely true and probably more of a question of WHEN.

I assume you work and have a job (if you don't sorry for assuming this), so just wait till your income tax check comes in. I am waiting at LEAST that long and if I still want a 360 or a PS3, I will get one if I decided which one I want more.

But definitely wait...

Shit. As soon as I make a decision and ask for help in the forums on where to get the best deal on a 360, this 'rumor' rears its ugly head again. Oh well, I've still got my Wii. I need to finish Zelda and play some more Monkey Ball I guess. I'll keep my money in the bank and re-evaluate when the time comes. Perhaps the PS3 will look better by then. Maybe I'll change my mind and get a Sony console for the first time. Who knows. Damnit.

Check out this headline from a reputable news source:
"PS4 to dispense blowjobs and apologies!"

Also:
"Money munching compatibility is possible with all Nintendo products currently, but you'll have to by an adapter."

And Finally:
"Micro$oft owns games, just like everything else."

Herein lies the bigger problem that MS and Sony can't address.

Where do you go from here? Faster processor and graphics cards lead to where?

Graphics are at 1080p now. Whatelse is there? You can't get much more realistic, and I have a hard time believing they're going to go through the whole rig-a-marole of launching a console for motion sensing.

I think Sony's 10 year plan is about the only saving grace to their wall they've hit. Sony knows that there isn't much more they can do with what's out there right now. In almost every console generation the gap between PC/Arcade/console has gotten closer together and now consoles are essentially high end PC's with subsidized pricing.

I think Nintendo's been ahead of the curve on the Wii. Yeah it may not have 1080p graphics or bleeding edge capacities on the media, but at least the next Wii will guaranteedly have HD support. What's MS planning on doing?

There is nothing wrong in holding off on an investment and thinking about it, especially for expensive consoles. Cause if you still want it after the time passes...then get it. Who knows, could be an impulse buy?

For once I agree with you! The only thing that Sony and MS can really do is improve on graphics really as well as being faster becuase I think motion sensor controllers will not be "next-gen" for the next-gen (or this gen). Thought controlled games is SOOOO next-gen.

The Wii is innovative...and thats as far as I can go with that, I would rather have good graphics over and gameplay over shoddy graphics and (what I believe to be) bad motion sensing overload. The Wii motion never seemed consistant, one min its not sensitive enough (driving games) and then it's over sensitive. I found the sixaxis to be more level and easier to steer.

500$ isn't even close to impulse for me. But, if I want something and I've saved for it I usually get it. Gone are the days of a console being what it is for eternity. We have hardware updates and firmware updates. It's not the end of the world though. Like I said I have other things to do. It's just Snaileb will be disappointed. And we all know what happens when Snaileb doesn't get his way... or do we?

i like what dvddesign said... the next step for them is their hd drives included and bigger harddrive to download games? and then TRY to innovate something but have it fail?

The Wii motion sensing is bad now, but that's the result of introducing a new concept to all-traditional developers. You can expect them to improve on it as time goes by, just as graphics do the same on any new system.

Like others i gotta agree with DvdDesign... at this point, it seems like a new console in about 5 years would have very marginally better graphics, and maybe include a few other things like hddvd and bigger harddrive, and maybe run a little faster... but overall, it's not gonna be too worthwhile. And can you imagine what the next xbox may cost, include some better hardware, possible built in hddvd, etc, and we maybe looking at $500-$600 for a console that's only a little better then the last one (at least with there was a strong leap between PS3 and PS2)... Really, poeple scoffed at sony aiming for a 10 year lifespan, but when you think about how little there is to go in terms of graphics, well, 10 years seems like a much smarter aim than 5.

I also agree, with the wii holding back on graphics, it's next consloe and splurge on improved graphics at a price which will be lower than the next xbox... so it still will hold a place... so we may see a new nintendo system in the next 5-6 years...

Thinking about all this makes thoughts of getting a PS3 over a 360 a little easier (if i cna't get both)... it may be a LONG time till the next PS, but only half that time for a 360... methinks despite it being more expensive now, PS3 might get me more bang for my buck in the long run. I mean, i'm already thinking i'm gonna wait another year before i get a new system (endless list of unplayed PS2 games keep me happy), and that's just another year off of 360s shorter lifespan...

OF COURSE! It is almost 100% fact that just about IMMEDIATELY after a console release, talk and design and concept start on the next console. They start immediately with the brainstorming and deciding what they want it to do and what not.

ALL companies do it, not just M$ and Sony, but also Nintendo.
