Peter Moore bitches about Internet list column, won't return Eurogamer's calls photo

I've written enough list columns to know that they bring out the troll in everybody. There is something about a random person's arbitrary ranking system that other human beings just cannot fathom. EA's Peter Moore is no different, and the feline Sports game boss has fallen prey to the selfsame hatred of Listmania. At least this guy has his reasons.

The target of his bitchery is Eurogamer, who did not rank FIFA 09 among its top fifty games of 2008. The cat-like head of EA Sports cannot fathom this, and has done what any man in his position would do -- he bitched about it on the Internet.

"Now I get that the sports genre is the Rodney Dangerfield of games when the awards are handed out," Moore states in a blog post. "But c'mon, one of the best sports games of recent times not even in the Top 50?"

Moore doesn't stop there. "Tomb Raider? OK, that's interesting," he states, while also sharing his belief that Mass Effect deserved more than position 49. He does state that he is "proud" to see Lost Odyssey on the list, which has raised my opinion of the man considerably. However, no FIFA makes him a sad kitty cat.

"Really? Seriously? Is it not cool to include a so-called mass market game?" he asks. "Bangai-O Spirits (no disrespect Treasure) makes it and FIFA 09 doesn't? Eurogamer -- you are and always will be one of my favorite gaming web-sites, but you were waaaay offside on this one."

If it's any consolation Peter, FIFA 09 is at the top of my list of games in 2009 that were about football and published by EA Sports and called FIFA 09.

Ooooohhhhh, burn.

It's funny how much like Peter Moore sounds like a comment on a Gametrailers video.

I want him to be in charge of the petz series, I would love to see him get mad about that.

Well, if Gamerankings is to be believed, FIFA 09 comes in around number 30 on the best reviewed games of 08.

And I'm sure I can find another 20 awesome games that deservingly bump a yearly rehash sports game out of the top 50.

@ mistic-

I don't see how it's overreacting. The website gave its collective opinion, and he responded with his own opinion. That's overreacting now?

It's sad when a few legitimately whiny developers have made it to where people in the industry can't disagree with gaming sites or reviewers at all, or they are whiners automatically. Should those who write for gaming sites or mags be the only ones who can share their opinions, with those who makes the games unable to give their own counter-opinion at all?

And actually, my rant was a better example of overreacting than Peter Moore's critique of the list.

Meh. The guy was merely expressing his opinions in a blog post. Not that the blog is a miraculous shield impenetrable to criticism, but I am glad the guy is publicly expressing his (relatively) raw feelings.

He's absolutely right - 09 was not just a "yearly rehash" as claimed by some ignorants, but was a quantum leap in football game history. This fact was refelected by everyone who reviewed it, including (for those who have apparently forgot) Dtoid
