Peter Molyneux promoted, will direct MGS Europe photo

The zestful and occasionally loose-lipped Peter Molyneux secretly became Microsoft Game Studio’s European creative director in March. Whoa.

The former Lionhead Studios executive will now, according to Develop, direct Perfect Dark and Avatar developer Rare as well as “other European external projects.” Whatever those will turn out to be.

Molyneux won’t have to hire moving vans or buy cardboard boxes in the near future. Apparently, he will continue to work out of his home base at Lionhead HQ from a throne made of gold, children’s tears, and empty Fable promises.

He looks like an ancient Christmas Elf in that picture. Old, yet somehow youthful looking.

"Empty fable promises"

*shudders* To this day I still lose sleep about that... :(

Why has Europe to be soooo fucked up when it's about videogames? I am cool with Europe, they do no tdeserve this.

So is Milo just total BS then?
Natal is WII w/out a remote and looks incredibly boring and stupid. I don't want to flail around like an idiot. It's fun for people who like Wii and have an unnatural fear or controllers. It'll probably be good for games like XBox Yoga or XBox karate tutorial.

But if Natal can deliver an immersive gaming experience like the one being shown in Milo I think will collapse from joy. I will be willing to pay a lot of good money for that. Having a world populated w/ characters like Milo and a game and story revolving around them? amazing. I think at that point video games would surpass movies and all other mediums of entertainment. Truly revolutionary. But....I think Milo is total BS...and if it's not even remotely possible, I'm a little angry that Microsoft would have the audacity to even pretend even for a little bit that that was something remotely possible in the semi-close future.

I've always been a fan of Peter Molyneux's work. Bravo to him.

Metal Gear Solid Europe? Where Big Boss's long-lost cockney clone infiltrates a Frankfurt-based weapons smuggling outfit only to realize it's all a conspiracy orchestrated by the Patriots to impose the Euro on unsuspecting citizens? Looking forward to that.

Fantastic. I like Molyneux, he's got good ideas and gets good shit done. Sure he may promise more than he delivers, but even 'just' what he delivers is typically fantastic regardless.
He means well, bless 'im.

As a famous despot once said: "Everything has transpired according to my design!"

Good luck Pete, personally I don't think you had the right stuff to manage individual projects lie Fable 2. Remember what happened when you put Lionhead to task of developing 3 games (Black and White 2, The Movies, Fable) at once?

That's right, none of them were amazing. Good luck Rare.

Good....Peter will do a great job of finding European talent to make MS first party games and also push the company to take chances publishing unique titles designed by regional talent.

I think his general ideas and imagination are a great thing to bring to the table, and will promote a lot of unique (and hopefully great) games. However if he puts too much into them he'll probably just make all of M$ Europe shit out games filled with empty potential.

He can be a really good guy, but sometimes he can get a bit to carried away.

The game industry is lucky to have this guy so high up the ladder. Enthusiastic dreamers are scarce these days.

Molyneux as creative director means fantastic things for MGSE, simply because he can envision a lot of unique ideas and concepts that many companies would shy away from due to time and money constraints.
I eagerly await news of what he's going to do with his position.

Enthusiastic dreamers are scarce these days.

I'd rather have an enthusiastic deliverer rather than someone who dreams of it, honestly. There are a lot of people who are delivering on new concepts and technology, as proven by more than few showings at E3.

Molyneux puts his head way above the clouds, where he can't deliver on what he talks about.

Metal Gear Solid Europe?! I kid, I kid. But is Peter a good choice to head the Europe division?

I know he's often seen as a master of bullshit, but his enthusiasm is great and his promotion is going to make any Microsoft announcement so much weirder. That can only be good.
And hell, Fable II may not have lived up to his hype, but it was still fun for a rental.

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
The Peter Molyneux of the nineties was creative with a definite flair for fun. Since then he has become more of a dreamer which result in shallow execution. I'm sure he can recognize talent as this has always been his strength, but what will he demand of it and will his influence be detrimental.

I'm with Tubatic, I like Molyneux. I don't necessarily think he's a bullshit artist, he just envisions more than is usually feasible. But I don't think that's a bad thing. With him having a more influential role in Microsoft maybe one of the teams under him will be able to deliver on a great idea the way just Lionhead couldn't.
