Pathological promiser Peter Molyneux has promised that he's learned his lesson about over-promising. The brain behind Fable III is famous for building up exaggerated hype over each of his games. He's also well known for promising that he's learned his lesson about over-promising. He promises that after every game he makes.
“I definitly have learnt my lesson about over-promising.” he promises. “There is a ton of work to do for sure, and the team are working hard. I truly believe.”
No he hasn't.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I can't wait for him to say it again after lackluster Fable III reviews!
When you start promising your games are going to piss people off, you're not cured yet, Pete.
You know
Before Fable II...
Exactly. I'd rather have an industry full of Molyneuxs than one littered with Koticks.
Wait... Whats that Molyneux, if i preorder the game you provide me with 30 virgins?
The problem is when Peter says his trees will grow in real time, people expect it, and it never happens.
That's false advertising in so many words. And he said some ridiculous things near the release of Fable II that just plain weren't in the game. I can cite examples.
Yes. Yes indeed. I'm glad this guy's still doing games.
Also, he kinda has been around making games since I was little. And from Theme Park to Dungeon Keeper to Fable, I always found stuff to enjoy in them.
Here Here! Kotick can eat a dick!
I don't really consider saying things you intend to put into a game that is still in development is false advertising. He isn't saying these things to mislead you, he's just telling you what he plans to do. It sucks that he doesn't actually deliver, but it's not deception by any means. It's like saying Bungie originally showing Halo as an RTS exclusive to the Mac was false advertising.
Xzyliac confirmed it.
But Moly is fucking batshit bonkers. He needs to get a hold on his enthusiasm. It's a great quality, but not if you let it ruin fucking everything that comes out of your mouth.
Damn. I would absolutely love to tell Molyneux to fuck off. He's such a pompous dickbag.
That is probably the best idea I have ever fucking heard.
If this isn't a Websters worthy definition of irony, I don't know what is.
Whoever says "fuck Peter Molyneux" is a cynical assknuckle that is basically saying "I believe everything PR and the government tell me, but I'm always disappointed when they don't meet expectations. And that's why I'm such a miserable fucktard."
Seriously folks sit back, chill out and just enjoy the ride.
To an extent, I agree with you, but this is what I'm saying!
There is a DISTINCT difference between:
"I hope one that I can make a game that has trees grow in real time. It may or may not be Fable."
and
"In Fable I, trees will grow in real time"
"In Fable II, trees will grow in real time"
"In Fable III, trees will grow in real time".
I'm pretty sure we can believe him when he says he will piss people off.
Also, his games aren't half bad either. I mean seriously.
Also, did you catch the tweet right after this. Its about how the magic system is going to work :D
As for his enthusiasm being a good thing -- I agree. I like ambitious developers. Peter's enthusiasm is fine. It's his mouth that tends to be the problem.
@The Passenger: "Also, if I were to find a magic lamp, I'd consider using one of my wishes on a miniature Peter Molyneux that I'd keep in a box and use to come up with really amazing things to say to my girlfriend."
Hahaha, this is MOLYNEUX we're talking about; he'd probably get you to promise her a yacht, a pet dolphin and a phonecall to Jesus Christ.
It's believable, I guess...but oh god, please don't let it be true. We need our heroes. Please tell me that Fable 3 can cure AIDS, substance abuse, and all forms of inequality facing our world today.
Lie to me, Molyneux. Speak to my gamer heart of how choices can matter, and how our decisions can carry over into the future. If your precious little lies can't save the gaming world, then what can?
Just technology hasn't quite caught up with his ideas yet, twould seem.
