On this slow New Year's Eve, we only received one press release. From PETA. The group wanted to spread the word about their named game for the most animal-friendly title of the year. It's The Sims 3.
I'm just going to let this speak for itself:
In the latest version of the biggest-selling gaming franchise ever, Electronic Arts allows players to choose a vegetarian lifestyle. According to game testers, vegetarian Sims, like their real-life counterparts, live longer, age more slowly, and feast on cruelty-free delights—from tofu dogs to ratatouille. And, like all great art, The Sims 3 imitates life—if your Sim eats meat, it will get sick.
Hear that, Meaties? Eat it and get sick. Last year's...award went to Fable 2, as in it when you ate fruits and vegetables you gained purity points, while meat gave you corruption points.
Tonight I'll be corrupt and become sick, as I'm dining on pork chops for dinner.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Either way it's fucking stupid, but I'm just saying.
Oh yes you will get sick. I learned that the hard way.
Why is it stupid though I must ask. Unless you're assuming all vegetarians are in it for a "cause" or to "cleanse" themselves.
Anyhow, I'll go corrupt myself with a nice ol' meatza pizza.

I could never call vegetarianism stupid; my girlfriend would murder me. :D
But it's totally fucking worth it. Best stomach ache I've ever had.
If you want to make an ethical argument for vegetarianism, fine. But you're doing your cause a great disservice by spreading obviously moronic misinformation like "meat will make you sick" and "you'll live longer if you cut meat out of your diet".
From here on out, I'm not buying any videogame that doesn't directly reference bacon.

Peta is a bunch of fags, animal huggers
No joke, look it up on last.fm
PETA rocks! Imma go have a nice juicy steak now. Thanks PETA, for giving me the confidence and appetite i need to devour more meat!
Ah. In that case I do agree with you.
Ironically this seems to only add to the "PETA doesn't care about people," joke considering you can pretty horrendously torture you Sims (with hilarious results!).
Watch now.
Being a vegetarian and fresh outta high school let me say the things you hear about vegetarians from the haters are FAR worse. I actually heard someone claim vegetatrians can't reproduce because the man can't ejaculate.
While not offensive (in my opinions) it's stupid on a whole 'nother level. To say we're all "skinny and gray," while stupid, is just par for the course.
Just eat whatchu wanna eat. Gosh.
I'll admit that the sentiments expressed here aren't nearly as offensive as what I've heard elsewhere. But accusing all vegetarians of being "skinny and gray" is as wrong and insensitive as saying that all jews are obsessed with money. Furthermore it is just as wrong for vegetarians to hate on non-vegetarians because they choose to eat meat. What I find amazing is how quickly people rush to their keyboards to proclaim how opposed they are to vegetarians whenever they are given a chance. Anyways, I happen to be a vegetarian, and last time I checked I have no problems "down there", if you know what I mean ;) .
so you masturbate alot? see, guys -- he's just like the rest of us.
Seriously, one day there could be a big scandal about how PETA are run by the various meat-packing conglomerates of the world and I would not be surprised in the smallest. Their sole goal seems to be to make everyone, even vegetarians, think vegetarians are stupid, ineffectual jackasses.
But vegetables are good too.
So PETA can go fuck themselves. They have no idea what they're talking about.
I'm not disagreeing with your mom but another reason is more obeee people are becoming vegetarians in hopes to lose weight (which isn't a bad way to go if you watch what you eat and back it up with excercise, so same basic rules regardless). Since vegetarianism was once considered a "pretty" lifestyle only pretty people did it. Now we're all scrambling to figure out how to lose weight so the vegetarian demographic is picking up a few of the obese demographic.
I know I've never ever seen a vegetarian gain weight after going vegetarian but it is just as likely as a meat eater. To say it's less likely is a misconception.
But I actually thought that eating meat was healhly
Depending on exactly what meat you eat and how much/how often you eat it. No?
Really? The type of protien found in meat may very well be easier to break down than the plant type. There is a reason the hunters killed off most farmers/gatherers in the early days of man, and copied thier farming techniques. It's just a scientific hypothosis, however, it is the leading one. Eating too much meat will lead to health problems. I recommend a 90%(plant) 10%(meat) mix. Just my informed opinion.
