PETA's most animal-friendly game of the year? The Sims 3 photo

On this slow New Year's Eve, we only received one press release. From PETA. The group wanted to spread the word about their named game for the most animal-friendly title of the year. It's The Sims 3.

I'm just going to let this speak for itself:

In the latest version of the biggest-selling gaming franchise ever, Electronic Arts allows players to choose a vegetarian lifestyle. According to game testers, vegetarian Sims, like their real-life counterparts, live longer, age more slowly, and feast on cruelty-free delights—from tofu dogs to ratatouille. And, like all great art, The Sims 3 imitates life—if your Sim eats meat, it will get sick.

Hear that, Meaties? Eat it and get sick. Last year's...award went to Fable 2, as in it when you ate fruits and vegetables you gained purity points, while meat gave you corruption points.

Tonight I'll be corrupt and become sick, as I'm dining on pork chops for dinner.

I think they meant that if you eat meat after being a vegetarian, you will get sick. Which is true.

Either way it's fucking stupid, but I'm just saying.

Live longer as a vegetarian? No thanks. And besides, have you ever seen a vegetarian? They're not exactly a picture of health, being all skinny and gray like they are.

Oh yes you will get sick. I learned that the hard way.

Why is it stupid though I must ask. Unless you're assuming all vegetarians are in it for a "cause" or to "cleanse" themselves.

Nothing wrong with being a vegetarian. It's just that PETA care about animals as much as it cares about the shit that falls out of them.

I just meant PETA picking an "animal-friendly game of the year", and the fact that I hate The Sims.
I could never call vegetarianism stupid; my girlfriend would murder me. :D

As a former vegan, I can assure you, if you stop eating meat, then start again, you'll get sick. You lose all the meat breaking bacteria in your digestive tract if you don't eat meat for a while.

But it's totally fucking worth it. Best stomach ache I've ever had.

If you want to make an ethical argument for vegetarianism, fine. But you're doing your cause a great disservice by spreading obviously moronic misinformation like "meat will make you sick" and "you'll live longer if you cut meat out of your diet".

Yes, yes, that's all wonderful, but what about the most vegetable-friendly game of the year? As a carnivore, I get very upset and kind of lightheaded every time I see a vegetable ripped out of the ground and left to sit in some lonely, scary produce section waiting in fear for when a cruel and sociopathic human being comes for it and puts it in a pot of boiling water to writhe in agony until it is time to be mercilessly drowned in acidic gastrointestinal juices.

Ironically this seems to only add to the "PETA doesn't care about people," joke considering you can pretty horrendously torture you Sims (with hilarious results!).

I also have nothing against vegetarians. I get ticked off over any group of people that feel they have to make a "club" to differentiate themselves from other people though. Like they are screaming "Hey, we're better than you. Oh yeah, and the way you are living...it's all wrong." Fuck that, I'll live how I want to live and you live how you want to live. How in the hell can you consider yourself to be an equal when you talk as if you have the moral high ground.

Jeez, talk about a lot of hatred towards vegetarians. I thought destructoid was supposed to have a mature, somewhat intelligent community? The opinions expressed in this post remind me of what you would hear from apathetic high school teenagers. I would like to point out that I'm trying to stand up for vegetarians, not PETA.

Being a vegetarian and fresh outta high school let me say the things you hear about vegetarians from the haters are FAR worse. I actually heard someone claim vegetatrians can't reproduce because the man can't ejaculate.

While not offensive (in my opinions) it's stupid on a whole 'nother level. To say we're all "skinny and gray," while stupid, is just par for the course.

Just eat whatchu wanna eat. Gosh.

I honestly have nothing against vegetarians(even jealsous of their commitment) but when they try to make me feel bad for eating meat thats when I get pissed. On numerous occasions this has happened, telling me to enjoy my flesh or whatever. Trying to make me feel like a ghoul or something.Thats when they piss me off.

I'll admit that the sentiments expressed here aren't nearly as offensive as what I've heard elsewhere. But accusing all vegetarians of being "skinny and gray" is as wrong and insensitive as saying that all jews are obsessed with money. Furthermore it is just as wrong for vegetarians to hate on non-vegetarians because they choose to eat meat. What I find amazing is how quickly people rush to their keyboards to proclaim how opposed they are to vegetarians whenever they are given a chance. Anyways, I happen to be a vegetarian, and last time I checked I have no problems "down there", if you know what I mean ;) .

Vegetarians are good people (except the bad ones. Those guys suck). PETA are bad people, and not just because they appreciate the Sims.

Seriously, one day there could be a big scandal about how PETA are run by the various meat-packing conglomerates of the world and I would not be surprised in the smallest. Their sole goal seems to be to make everyone, even vegetarians, think vegetarians are stupid, ineffectual jackasses.

But vegetables are good too.

According to my mom, who is the chief physician of Stanford Medical Group at Stanford University Medical Center, it is a huge misconception that vegetarians are healthier than non-vegetarians. Evidently obesity and hypertension are increasing more rapidly amongst vegetarians than non-vegetarians because in the absence of meat, a vegetarian is more likely to load up on carbohydrates, which in combination with poor exercise (likely caused by the belief that just by avoiding meat they are healthier) leads to massive weight gain and an increased chance of becoming diabetic.

So PETA can go fuck themselves. They have no idea what they're talking about.

@ FinnE: Choosing to load up on carbohydrates and not exercise is more a problem with individual stupidity than with vegetarianism.

I'm not disagreeing with your mom but another reason is more obeee people are becoming vegetarians in hopes to lose weight (which isn't a bad way to go if you watch what you eat and back it up with excercise, so same basic rules regardless). Since vegetarianism was once considered a "pretty" lifestyle only pretty people did it. Now we're all scrambling to figure out how to lose weight so the vegetarian demographic is picking up a few of the obese demographic.

I know I've never ever seen a vegetarian gain weight after going vegetarian but it is just as likely as a meat eater. To say it's less likely is a misconception.

"Sims, like their real-life counterparts, live longer, age more slowly, and feast on cruelty-free delights—from tofu dogs to ratatouille"

Really? The type of protien found in meat may very well be easier to break down than the plant type. There is a reason the hunters killed off most farmers/gatherers in the early days of man, and copied thier farming techniques. It's just a scientific hypothosis, however, it is the leading one. Eating too much meat will lead to health problems. I recommend a 90%(plant) 10%(meat) mix. Just my informed opinion.
