@Space Moose: I know. Wasn't snipping at you or your comment, I just don't think PETA is force for good and change in this world. I can appreciate your view, I just really, really dislike PETA and the way they go about things, even if they do some good every once in a while there is so much ridiculous, awful shit they support.

I like how there are like 3 or 4 posts a month on Destructoid about people making reactionary blanket statements about the game industry, and then Destructoid goes on to make the same kind of statements about an organization they don't agree with. I'm not a vegetarian, and I don't agree with a lot of what Peta does but to write them off is foolish, as is to write off videogames and their developers. Treating Peta as a giant joke is really unfortunate considering that although they might not be perfect, at least they're trying to do something worthwhile and make a change in the world. Unlike, you know, writing a video game blog.
Their older parody Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals was one of the funniest games I've played, despite the controls being terrible. Seriously, bloody eggs, decapitating that poor (dead) turkey, the concept was just so ridiculous and cathartic that I couldn't take their actual message seriously.

The problem is that extremists of really ANY kind pretty much always hurt their cause far more than they help it. PETA isn't the only one. That said... Meat Boy is a pretty generic lump of meat. For all we know, he was carved from the flesh of some evil, evil kitten stomper. Chill, PETA. Chill.
I'm not a supporter of PETA really, but my wife and I do our best to eat mostly vegetarian meals and we purchase all of our meat from a local free range farm where the animals are treated decently.

I've got nothing against eating meat, but I don't see any reason why the animals can't be treated better. I understand the industry is trying to make a profit and that people are gonna eat meat and and want to eat cheaply, but I would love to see a better balance of animal treatment vs price of meat products. I'd be happy to pay $2 for all those $.99 cheese burgers and chicken nuggets if it meant that industrial farms/ranches could give their animals a better life.

You can steal their ideas, but you can't beat their Meat. When I think of Peta, I think of Brad Pitt's little eco-terrorist group in the movie Twelve Monkeys, especially how mindless his own helpers were and how crazy he was. But I think that if the army of the Twelve Monkeys was real, I would have more respect for them than I ever will for Peta. Also, Edmund McMillen is awesome and utterly crazy.
peta tends to show the 1% of the meat packing industry that doesn't follow rules and regulations so what they show is often not really what happens. unfortunately, the problem is that peta keeps telling people what to eat. they want us to stop eating meat and animals when people around the world are starving. those of us in america might be able to if we converted some land to grow more grains, vegetables and fruits, but what about the places that can't? is japan to stop eating fish and seafood all of a sudden? what about southern africa? in my opinion, if peta wants people to stop eating meat, they need to be able to feed everyone first. after that, we can talk about what things we should stop eating.
PETA spends almost all of their money on ad campaigns, not actually helping animals. Unless you are a dolt who thinks "raising awareness" is more important than doing anything, this should immediately throw up a red flag in your mind. The founder also advocates killing all domesticated animals (including your dogs and cats) rather than letting them be your slaves. When she ran an animal shelter, she went on an absolute euthanasia rampage to do her part for the cause. PETA also loves to use misleading statistics or outright lies to make their case. PETA leadership is mostly just a bunch of people haters who use animals as an excuse to hate people.
In conclusion, fuck PETA. Vegans or vegetarians who like the idea of protecting animals are fine, and are not the same thing as the leadership of PETA.

However, comments like BigMoose85's "Cry me a river hippie" or comments like "Sorry, I don't like bird seed" show how immature and ill informed the other side of the argument can be.

The ONLY time our eating habit differences were a problem? when someone made fun of them for being Vegan during thanksgiving, to which my sis responded "Listen, I just want you to respect my decision to not eat turkey, as I respect your right and decision to eat turkey."

In this case, I think Team Meat handled it pretty well, turning the whole PETA thing into free marketing for Super Meat Boy. Sure they trolled PETA a little bit on Twitter, but honestly, PETA started it and while it wasn't the most graceful way to handle it, Team Meat handled it exceptionally well.

Check it out when you get the chance, there was some pretty horrible stuff going on behind those walls and peta put a stop to it

You know what's worse than PETA? Contrarians who think it's super trendy and hip to hate PETA (whether they realize they're doing it to be trendy or not.) Seriously people, why don't you go talk about how Obama hasn't done anything or something? I think that's what all the cool kids are doing these days.
I will admit, I am not a fan of PETA, but despite all of their failures, they have accomplished some miraculous things on a smaller person-to-person basis. And their message is a great one: Respect animals as your equals. Do I agree that eating meat makes you a lesser person? No! Of course not! We are omnivores, after all, but the way we treat animals raised for consumption is horrible. Small time farmers have it right: Respect the animal, and treat it kindly. It is not a fucking product meant for your pleasure. It has (assuming it's mammalian) the same feelings, emotions, and desire for life you do (not debatable.) PETA just approaches the subject entirely wrong.
However, there are amazing organizations that do use financial harm to defeat research facilities, such as the Animal Liberation Front, and they do amazing work. To the person who's co-worker got punched in the face, that sucks, I'm sorry, but realize that there are organizations like the ALF that will destroy a lab, but make it a point to never harm a life of any kind, human or otherwise. I also highly doubt any ALF members would attack a facility without investigating exactly what it is they do there. People in the ALF are heroes.

Just played as Tofu Boy after the last update and, man, he's fucking terrible. He can only complete a select few stages from the forest, the others are completely unplayble. Definitely just for the lulz.
My policy with vegetarians is just like those of a major religion: I don't agree with your beliefs, but as long as you don't try to convert me, I'm very sure we can get along. PETA doesn't follow this policy. As such I do not like them.

I care a great deal about animals. I worked at a No-Kill SPCA shelter for about a year, and while it may sound simple, it was the most fulfilling job I've ever had. I only quit because I brought my own cat in to be fixed and he never woke up from the anesthesia.

When i first read about PETA's response to something they had no clue about, i laughed and figured the most they would do would be to add a "Dan-esque" fail character. Little did I realize this would lead to the greatest trolling this side of the Mason-Dixon Line.

I'd also like to note how intelligent the majority of Destructoid members are. I mean they are generally well-read and knowledgeable of the topics presented and are willing to learn from others posts instead of just instantly flame like on other sites (*cough *cough IGN).
