The other day, we shared with you the story of a bunch of students who whined about the fact that Call of Duty games allow players to defend themselves against attack dogs. Not one to miss an opportunity to spread nonsense and self-promote, North American Man Horse Love Association PETA has joined the fray and condemned Activision's FPS series.
"Not since we were pitted against Nazi attack dogs when we first escaped from Castle Wolfenstein 17 years ago have we seen such barbaric treatment of dogs in gameplay as we did in Call of Duty: World of War," declares PETA. "To help the folks at Activision Blizzard learn about the ethical treatment of animals, we're offering to let them take PETA's "Developing Empathy for Animals" free of charge and are sending a package of Nintendogs games to their office."
At least PETA is having a bit of a sense of a humor about things. Nevertheless, PETA and the students that started this silly bitchfest are about two years late to the party, considering it was 2007's Modern Warfare that first featured hot man-on-dog violence.
Luckily, PETA is unaware of Modern Warfare 2, where players will be able to feed bits of giraffe to other giraffes while Colonel Sanders watches and wanks off into a dying chicken's gasping beak.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The dogs in those games TRY TO RIP YOUR NECK OFF, heck, I'd say thier sole purpose in that game is to kill you, I know PETA is ignorant, but this is just beyond all sense. To say that you should feel guilty killing the very animal that is trying to kill you, is irresponsible, and idiotic. I find it confusing why they would say those words, simply because Activision will never listen to them. Being completely ignorant is disgustng, PETA.
How can it be barbaric killing attack dogs??
I know PETA is an orginization that, at best, is misguided, and at worst, a slight on humanity. But I never knew that they were also, for all purposes, stupid.
Oh wait, but they were trying to use violence to make a point...

PETA, do not deny these dogs their escape from Hell.
Some developer needs to just make a fur simulator for the Wii, with minigames like bash the baby seal and skin the cuddly kitten. That would really ruffle their feathers.
Keeping animals as pets is just as cruel and eating them, because we were meant to do neither.
Virtual killing of animals I've been doing in many years of Resident Evil, and these fools didn't care then. Why start now? Go figure.
I'll continue shooting 3d dogs, til i get tired of it thanks, and feel no shame in it.
I'm not against it for the killing, though. I'm against it because it's a dumbass thing to have replaced the helicopter with.
Give them 3 years man I'm sure they will google enough to find it eventually...
Why don't you read up on WW2. You know.... back before videogames ....there were wars.... and in those wars... there were dogs... that were trained to kill soldiers in battle....... weirdo
That dog is giving me the stink eye, so yes naturally I would defend myself.
Im with BlackDove here, why did ya censor yourself Jim?
apparently someone at peta never played a resident evil game, or fallout 3. silent hill has even stuck with canine-esque enemies. peta = fail
As someone who has studied animal biology and behavior, and as actually BEEN in the wild (1 year studying the forests near Kota Kinabalu) all I can say is that if animals had advanced technology, they would be even worse than humans when it came to killing.
PETA are literally insane, identifying and imposing their own values on animals. We can't talk or communicate with animals in any effective manner, we don't know what they're thinking or feeling. PETA, on the other hand, thinks that animals are just like people, just in a different form. They literally believe that animals have concepts like equality, freedom, democracy and so on. They believe that animals can think just like people, despite having NO evidence to that claim.
But have no fear - PETA and people like them are a very small minority. A very vocal minority to be sure, but they are far, far too small to do anything. The real people you need to be afraid of are the "Animal Liberation Front" groups, who are basically just terrorists, willing to kill scientists and people all to help "wobbles-the-rabbit" get out of that awful, awful cage.
