Persona fans rejoice! Katsura Hashino, Director of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4, has confirmed that a new game in the Persona series is on the way. In fact, his team is preparing to start work on the game as we speak! Hashino confirmed they were about to begin development in a recent Dengeki PlayStation interview.
No platform or details were released. All we know is that Persona 5 is definitely a thing that is happening. Until now, we'd heard plenty of rumors about the game, including that it will be a PlayStation 3 release. That's very reasonable to believe, since Persona can't exist on the PS2 forever. In any case, this is exciting news for series fans.
Dale North is unavailable for comment, but we're fairly certain he's furiously fapping in a bathroom right now!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It would be amazing if it was on the Wii, if only for all the lulzy butthurt comments I'd get to read.
They really need to bring the series out of the ps2 era.
That is all.
Anyway, I am very excited.
bring back kendo!
This.
Make sure to leave room so I can join in too.
I hope you're not refering to little 'ol' me. I'd be perfectly fine with P5 being on PS3 (which I'm sure it will be). But you have to admit that there would be a pretty amusing uproar if it was somehow revealed to be a Wii-exclusive.
Just hope it wont be on PS3 only. Don,t want to buy a PS3 lol.
This made my day :D
Everything I read post-mortem about P4 suggests that they know what they're doing, so I am wicked pumped.
Best comment right there.
While it's unlikely it will be a PS2 release, I wonder if it will be a PSP, DS, or Wii release. (Hell, maybe even a 3DS release). For some reason, the PS3 just doesn't seem like a good fit for the series.
Its important to note that Atlus still has no HD games on the market, save for the ones Atlus USA has published. The Persona games aren't world-spanning stories where they'll heve to make numerous towns, but Atlus recycles the hell out of their assets (especially in the animation and monster design departments. Hell, SMT: Strange Journey runs on a hybrid version of the Etrian Odyssey and Devil Survivor games.
So I would NOT get my hopes up about it appearing on PS3. And really, while SMT Strange Journey gives me the actual main series vibe, Atlus needs to give Persona a rest. Its kind of sad when you let a spin-off series outshine the main series. I want more of the main series, please.
note: I have never played any persona game.
