Persona 4 staff working on an 'interesting' new game photo

Oooh, yeah. Baby, baby. The latest entry on the Japanese P3P Blog drops some hints on what's coming up next from Atlus.

Producer Katsura Hashino split the Persona 4 team into two. Half of them worked hard on PSP game Persona 3 Portable, and the other half went to work on something else. Hashino says that next year he'll begin working with this other team on this new game, which he calls "extremely interesting." There's absolutely no clue as to what it might be about, but it is nearing completion, so I'm guessing we'll hear more about it soon.

There's maybe even better news from this same blog post. Hashino also said that he would soon begin working on "that." Starting next year, the two teams will converge to work on "that," says Andria Sang. What else could it be but Atlus' next game in their flagship series?

Ps3 Persona or bust

A PS3 Persona 5 would be great, but I'm tempering my expectations, since there's a very good probability that won't happen.

PE4 hands down, SUCKED! At the start of this year I read so many great reviews for it, thought I'd skip 3 since 4 was supposed to be much better so I added it to my gamefly queue. Skip to August they said they were sending it and I was fucking psyched, I couldn't wait. It came in the mail and I was ecstatic with glee, popped that fucker in and played it for 10 straight hours. 10 straight shitty hours, I couldn't send the game back fast enough. The jpop was garbage, worst I had ever heard which is some kind of demonic miracle because jpop in general sucks as it is. The gameplay was as fun as jerking off with battery acid as lube. The characters were as interesting and thought out as Fox News pundits. I was so disappointed, for the first time in my life I considered becoming a 'cutter'.

I've never really played any of the Persona games, but I guess I'll start with the PSP one.

Personally, I loved the J-Pop. Fit in well with the game's aesthetics. The battle theme in particular was strangely endearing. The gameplay is an interesting mix of JRPG and dating sim, and unless you hate both, I don't really see how it can be THAT bad. Pretty creative synthesis, really. And I loved the party members :3

I'm gonna say like the first two persons: PERSONA 5 ON PS3!!!

... pretty please?
I already sold my soul to Atlus, so I don't have anything else to barter with them. :(

@MC: Sure, why not? Everyone should get to play a Persona game! :)

"The gameplay was as fun as jerking off with battery acid as lube."

Fail. I can understand if someone didn't like the Jpop or some of the other aspects of the game, since it's not for everyone, but the game has an outstanding battle system. Easily one of the best in any JRPG.

"What about Persona 5 for PS3 and 360? :) Everybody would be happy :)"

Alus almost never does multi-platform releases. It would be either just the PS3 or just the 360. (So basically just the PS3.)

Sounds to me that 'that' game is Persona 5 which I don't think would be a surprise to anyone. The other thing, however, could be a nice fresh SMT spin-off game which I really hope it is. I could definitely go for something Digital Devil Saga-esque. :D

Persona 5 for PS3 and 360, we don't need it in the Wii :3

On the other hand, I reaaaally need P4P, since my PS2 stop existing while I was playing P4

No more Persona. All everybody talks about is Persona, but it's one of the worse spin-offs of the SMT series.

New SMT core game to go along with Strange Journey please.

Too bad that's not going to happen. Don't expect to see another core SMT for another few years at least.

Persona 5 for 360 please?

I had to borrow my friends PS2 to play 3 and 4. Didn't really care for the games before I tried them out and realized how great they are.

Aww, what a tease. Still, since that team seems to be capable of producing fully awesome titles without breaking a sweat, it's cause for rejoicing no matter what it is.

(P5 would be awesome, but a new SMT game would be faptastic.)

Persona 5 would be interesting, but the team was split in half. Now the P3P team are done, what are THEY up to?

I am intrigued. Very intrigued.

They're waiting for the other half of the team to finish up their current project so the teams can join again and work on whatever mystery project they have lined up.

I hope it's Persona 5, and I REALLY hope it's multiplatform. I have no idea why idiot fans would want their game to be on only one system (which would probably be the PS3). I loved P3 and P4 and it would break my heart if I couldn't play P5. The Persona series has proven itself to be some of the best RPGs ever, everyone should get a chance to play them.

"I hope it's Persona 5, and I REALLY hope it's multiplatform. I have no idea why idiot fans would want their game to be on only one system (which would probably be the PS3)."

It's less to do with being an "idiot fan" and more to do with living in reality. In a perfect world we'd get to see Persona 5 on PS3 and 360, both versions would run flawlessly, and everyone would live happily ever after.

But eventually you have to come back to reality and face facts. Atlus USA doesn't do multi-platform releases, like ever (the most you'll get out of them is a port/remake sometime down the line). Not to mention they have 0 development experience currently with either the 360 or the PS3 (attempting to do their first ever simultaneous multi-platform release during their first ever experience developing for both the PS3 and 360 would be absolutely insane), which means they'd inevitably pick one console, and since the PS3 is significantly more popular in Japan than the 360 it would without question be the console they'd choose between the two.

Of course the idea of an HD Persona 5 is a bit of a fantasy in and of itself. It would be wonderful, but given the company's budget there's a good probability it would end up on a console like the Wii or even PSP/DS instead.

Normally, I would agree and say that when it comes down to it, that'd be the only option and the mature thing to do.

But then I looked at your past comments and realized you're one of those hypocrites who wants NMH2 to be ported to the 360/PS3 because you can't be half-assed to buy a Wii. Irony is a depressing thing sometimes and I suggest you list to your own gospel before you preach it to others.
