Persona 4 mentioned in Atlus company profile photo

If Persona 3 was one of your favorite titles of 2007, this ought to come as welcome news. In Atlus' recent company profile, they mention several titles scheduled for next year, including a sequel to Etrian Odyssey and Persona 4. The latter is listed as a PS2 game however, so it looks like the title will not be making the jump to next-gen consoles.

This may be disappointing news to some, but seeing as how Persona 3 performed quite well in Japan and is very popular there, it may not phase most gamers. The timing is good, as there will be an anime series launching in 2008 as well. Frankly, I don't mind one bit what console an RPG comes to if it has a great story. On the other hand, a solid next gen RPG would be super, so hopefully we'll see one of those in 2008 as well.

I just bought Persona 3, I have yet to open it. It's the only PS2 item that I have gotten new, which is an accomplishment in and of itself for said game. However, that makes me no less excited for Persona 4.

Next-Gen? Not everything has to have the bells and whistles of next-gen to be appreciated. Everyway It doesn't faze me much..I'll play it on my 60 gigger.

BTW AKK: You need to play that game.

OH FUCK YEAH. Finally someone that realizes not every game needs to be "next-gen" (i.e. shiny graphics on a weaker game, because they had to spend all their time on the blinding lighting effects).

Persona 3 already looks fine, I don't think moving it up to PS3 would really add much to it. The game has style, and the PS2 has enough power to express it reasonably. This is the same reason why games like Steambot Chronicles 2 and Disgaea 3 look like a joke on the PS3, when the obviously don't need to be.

I really like Persona 3 but all the Persona games have been different and this may be different from Persona 3. I don't mind though, change is good.

I suppose that's true, even so, I can't imagine how Persona would really NEED the PS3, nor that Atlus should waste their budget on trying to make it do so.

Really until I see someone utilize a 360/PS3 to do something amazing other than realistic graphics, I don't think a lot of games need to be there. Though I'd certainly love to see it, hasn't happened yet.

Why couldn't have Nippon Ichi have gone this route...?

Anyway, good news is good. Not every game needs to be on the next-gen systems, and the PS2 is a widely-owned system. I'm more surprised more developers aren't going this route, to be honest. Hopefully us in the Americas get P4 as well.

I'm dying to play P3, and have yet to obtain a copy of it.

I'm in agreement with the majority of the above comments. There's really no need to put it on PS3. I'm actually kind of excited that it will be on PS2.

While I do agree that there is no real reason for Persona 4 to come out on PS3 and that it is perfectly fine on the PS2, Atlus is eventually going to have to make the jump to the next-gen systems.

This being the case, I think they should start getting some experience working with the PS3 and Blu-ray before they get left behind as a developer/producer. No one is expecting blockbuster graphics or effects, but that experience is important.

Hope they drop the random dungeon shit, that killed P3 for me.

That and the moon event bullshit, any game that puts some stupid shit in place to keep me from going further can blow me, you can tired of grinding or talking to the various idiots to raise the arcana rank, it would have been nice to have a choice to skip these days till the event.

Remove the A.I controlled party members, its total shit and never works, there isn't a single big company that has a designed a competent ally A.I so far, I doubt Atlus will be the first.

P3 has a good story but I didn't wanna slog through the horrid gameplay to get to it, hopefully P4 will fix the problems I had with P3, I doubt it though, Atlus is in a nice groove right now, they push out mediocre games WITH AMAZING ART ^_^ and they will sell, they've become Square Enix.

I honestly don't get why everyone loves Persona.
I think that Nocturne and DDS I & II are much better. Just a preference thing, I guess...

I still have Persona 3 sealed. I don't know if I'd pick up 4 if it was for the PS2, it better be released @ 39.99 or lower.
