Persona 4 is the most wanted game to anime adaption photo

Sure, there's games we all love so much that we play them multiple times just to get back in the atmosphere -- I know I have, and I'm sure some of you have too. If you could have an anime made of any of those games though, which would it be? Dengeki Online recently polled their readers to that effect, and it looks like Persona 4 tops the list, with many other solid contenders following:

     1. Persona 4
     2. Phoenix Wright
     3. Okami
     4. Kingdom Hearts
     5. Idol Master
     6. Metal Gear Solid
     7. Yakuza
     8. BlazBlue
     9. Persona 3
     10. Atelier Rorona

If you've seen Persona: Trinity Soul, you know the format already adapts well, so I can easily envision the characters of Persona 4 in other adventures. I have a feeling we won't see this though. My other most wanted on that list would be Phoenix Wright, Okami, Persona 3 and BlazBlue. Off thelist, I'll take Fragile, Muramasa, anything featuring Tingle, and the further adventures in the worlds of Rhythm Tengoku and Rhythm Heaven. And while we're floundering around in extreme fantasy, I'd also like a butler to make me breakfast every morning.

Um, I'm not sure what a Rhythm Heaven anime would consist of, Colette, but I'm sure it would be awesome. And I would love a Persona 4 anime ^.^

Then again I want anything Metal Gear related.

Why is iDOLM@STER on that list? They had their chance with Xenoglossia and they completely ruined it. I do agree with P3/4 and Muramasa getting anime adaptations though.

With the Persona series, I don't want an anime adaptation.

Why? The game spans over 40+ hours, giving you plenty of time to get used to and connect with the characters of the game, get engrossed in the story, etc.
Cramming it down into a 13/26 episode anime would dull the effect immensely.

I want Phoenix Wright. as much as I love the Persona stuff as well as all things Megaten Phoenix Wright just makes everything a whole lot more awesome just by being there. I mean c'mon. You know I'm Wright on this.

Why wouldn't the Metal Gear anime be number 1? There's so much story to tell, it could span multiple TV series, OVAs, and movies.

Also, I agree with kapshhh: Phoenix Wright feels like an anime on the DS already! Perfect!

I'd really like to see an anime on a notable Western property like Fable. God knows that needs a better story ;)

I love Persona but I demand a Tetris anime RIGHT NOW! And if they can't do Tetris then how about a Brick Breaker anime. These are quality shows just begging to be made.

@BGFUSAB: Tetris would need to be combining Super Robot Show. It just seems too perfect. Seperate they come close to losing, but then L-Shape shows up and helps them finish their combination as everyone announces VIBRANTLY.... TEEETRRRIIISSSS!!!!

Seriously, Colette? Persona: Trinity Soul transferred well? I'm going to have to get your clarification on what exactly you mean as you say that. My opinion is clearly not God, but I thought that show was a mess. Persona didn't seem to behave in any remotely similar fashion, the story lacked any genuine meat or detail, and the climax was just plain confusing with all of that "whale" stuff.

I mean, above all else the thing was just boring, with you having to sit through several episodes to get any real next key point to the plot. Dot.Hack was less secretive than that, another game anime.

I mean, if anyone can tell me how the story and premise of Persona 3 and that anime tie together I'm genuinely interested, but as far as I can see they didn't even get the absolute bare essential aspect of the Persona being mythological in origin. It just struck me as an excuse to use the Persona name on an anime that had almost non-existent connections.

So again I ask, what did you mean by transferred well? I apologize if I'm coming off as overbearing.

To clarify, I thought there was no transfer to begin with, making it impossible to really know if the transfer works well or not.

@Wry Guy - Yes, you definitely came across as overbearing. Chill! :) We're just talking about ideas here. As for Persona: Trinity Soul, I thought the atmosphere and look that Persona fans enjoy transferred well. I liked what I saw, but I did end up not finishing for some of the reasons you stated -- I found it wasn't engaging enough in the end to hold my attention.

@Colette: It's most certainly true that they managed to get the atmosphere fairly down. Were it a straight adaption of Persona 4's story that does add to the argument it could go well. Apologies for seeming strung out. It's a pet peeve of mine when a show takes a series name and has no real relation, because if I'm a big enough fan of the property I keep on watching in hopes that it eventually does.

I'm a sucker like that. :[

A Baroque anime based on the manga, please. The game relies a lot on the player's input and personal connection to the character, but the manga did a pretty good job of telling the story so I think an anime could work as well.

Speaking from that list in particular, Persona could probably work, but both would have to be pared down a lot. The story would be so barebones it might not be worth it except to people who already finished the game, which kind of defeats the purpose. Blazblue and Guilty Gear would make great animes, though. Don't really know about the others...Phoenix Wright doesn't really need an anime as half of the fun from the games is solving the puzzles yourself, and without that part I don't think the stories would be as entertaining. The manga certainly isn't very good, I can tell you that much.

I think that a kind of slice-of-life anime with the Persona character's could work well.
Don't try to adapt the original plots, but get some kind of side story going in there. Maybe a prequel/sequel, or an OVA of some teenage life silliness.

I don't think Persona 4 would make a good anime. The story is built around the RPG itself and wouldn't really work on its own. A lot of the game is spent getting new members, which really boils down to "someone disappears, go into dungeon, YOU'RE NOT ME, fight, wait a few days, new team member." It doesn't really become dynamic until later on once you have every recruit and certain character gets kidnapped.

Plus, way too much of it is mundane stuff like working at Junes. We don't really realize how stale/repetitive some chunks of the story are because they're punctuated by spurts of gameplay. I'd maybe argue that Persona 3 would be a better fit, if only because the full moon scenarios are varied and change the dynamic of the battles. You'd have to yank out a large chunk of Tartarus crap, but I think the story works a little better, and since the shadows directly affect the real world, you have some flexibility to create original stories and conflicts.

Ultimately, though, I think this is another case of video game stories not working well in other mediums (and vice versa), the medium is the message, etc.

not surprised on Phoenix Wright. That'd be a hit easy. Though I personally wouldn't mind a Chrono Trigger Anime. that can go in so many directions if given in the right hands.

Persona....I downloaded the first episode and never watched it. then come to find out it wasn't all that good, I kinda didn't bother afterwards.

Katamari Damacy anime would be better than butlered breakfast. Surreal nuggets like the cutscenes in the game. Narrated in nonsense talk, with a squirrel on the bottom of the screen providing sign language translation.

They should make an Okami anime, and use all of the voices from the game. A good BlazBlue anime would be nice, to help make sense of the story.

Earlier this year I read a onslaught of great reviews and comments about the game. I was a fan of the first two Persona's on the PSX, though I never tried or even knew about the third. From what I read, the 4th perfected everything from 3, so I figured I would just play 4. Skip 7 months later when a copy finally became freed up on Gamefly, and they sent it to my mail box. I was so excited and so eager to play the game. I held my breath in anticipation. It finally arrived and I was overjoyed. I popped that sucker into my PS3 (1st gen, yeah, you're jealous) and it was on! A day later I couldn't mail it back fast enough muttering "good riddance you piece of shit, garbage game". The story was lame, the characters I couldn't care less about, the repetitive jpop music was awful even for jpop, and the gameplay I'm sure could equate as second best to jerking off with sulfuric acid as lube. I enjoyed nothing about this game. Anime fanboys really should to broaden their horizons instead of praising every lame thing Japan squirts on them.
