Excited! I played the hell out of the Mortal Kombat 9 story mode, and this seems much more extensive.
@duck - its fairly safe to start with 4, but if you have a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is will get you up to speed on the other characters appearing in the game.
P3 is on PS2 classics, but P3P has a lot of the gameplay refinements of P4. The first two Persona games have no direct connection to P3 and P4.

So, can we expect awkward transitions between dead seriousness and lame comedy all handled by obnoxious unlikeable characters? Wouldn't be a Persona game without it.
I was worried for a minute that Arc System Works would be handling the written - very happy that it is going to be the Persona team. I recently played the Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend story modes (which when added all together is probably over 40 hours) and a lot of it came across as bad Japanese light novel audio drama. Its not quite as bad as Kingdom Hearts for non-sensical drivel, but it is close to that territory. Persona 3 and 4's stories had a real charm to them that I hope is captured in this game.

Well P3 and P4 are already set in the same world. In P4, the characters actually visit the school from P3. That said, I think the only P3 characters you see at that part are some of the teachers and that glasses girl, Chihiro or something. So yea, seeing some actual interaction of the main characters of each game will be nice (though I'm not really a fan of the P3 characters, but I know a lot of people are).
Wow, that's about half of time it takes to get through Persona 3 and 4. I'm definitely looking forward to this.
This will be the first region locked game for the ps3 >_> I guess we Europeans will only get it by the December or something
@PrinceHeir I plattied Calamity Trigger somehow, but Continuum Shift has proven to be beyond my capabilities. Mainly because of online trophies and those damned challenges. Score Attack was a bitch as well.
@topic I expected nothing less from Atlus, can't wait to get my hands on the game. Shame I had to cancel my US preorder, apparently it's going to be region-locked.

Oh man watching that and hearing the P3 music just Gushed Persona 3 into my head. So so good. I want to play it noah!
Funny. I loved Persona 3 & 4, but until now I had all but ignored any news on this game. I just wasn't that interested in a fighting game based on this series. But if they really intend to put that much effort into the story, well I might just pick this up after all.
I guess I will have to watch the anime. Don't feel like playing an Persona game, have too many games already.

Kinda disappointed Yukari and Junpei from 3 didn't make the cut for the console release, but this's a day one purchase for me all the same. Nice to see that the single player modes in fighting games isn't being ignored by EVERY dev.
I'm extremely excited to use Aigis and see what she's been doing since FES. I don't know why, but she was my favorite character in P3.
