And there you go. Persona 3 Portable, the updated, portable-ized adaptation of Persona 3 for the PSP, has finally been announced by Atlus USA, dated for release on July 6th, 2010.
If I or fellow Persona and MegaTen fans have somehow been unable to bombard you with details regarding the game, just know this: you're getting way more than a straight port. Persona 3 Portable comes with an all-new storyline featuring a playable female protagonist, more Social Links, part-time jobs, combat features added from Persona 4, and a fully optimized, portable-friendly interface.
Hit the official website for more details, the gallery for screenshots and box art, or check below for the animated intro. I guess I really have to up and finish Persona PSP if I'm going to dig into this one in time.
Ha ha, sweet! I still own my original copy of Persona 3 with the box and artbook, and I also own a copy of FES. Can't wait to add a third copy of the same game to my collection! I love this game that much!
I really want this game. At the same time, I'm a little torn. I'm all for porting classic games to other consoles, but Persona 3 is still pretty new. I know there's additional content in this version, but part of me still feels like I'm paying money for something I already own...
I would have rather had persona 5 for the PS3 but I'm still really liking this bit of news. Should be interesting to experience the game from a female perspective.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! July?! Oh come on! That's 6 fucking months. Six. Fucking. Months. And that is half a year. That is too much.
If I knew Japanese, I would've translated this game for a month. A month is six times less, then six months.
There's a reason why I am so upset. I started playing P3, but then I saw that P3P came out in Japan. So I thought it'll take em a few months to translate it and I'll get the sweetness which is P3 on a handheld.
I just thought that it'll be like they did with the first Persona. It came out in Japan and it came to US 5 months later. With P3P though, it takes almost a year.
Damn.
If I'll finish P3 now, I won't play it on PSP, but these type of games are best played on a handheld, I just can't sit near my tv for like 30 hours crawling random dungeons and establishing social links. I can do it on my psp though, when I'm at work, or drinking coffee somewhere, or even taking a shit. In fact, it's best to establish social links while taking shit.
Ok, ok, I'll finish P4 first then. And later in july I'll get P3P. That seems reasonable.
oh man... summer? i waited to get the first Persona on PSP last year because i saw this was coming out. I even had the Persona pre-ordered.... damn. This port better be DAMN GOOD!
Just when I was giving up hope Atlus finally delivers the goods. Just in time too as I'll hopefully be headed out of the country in late July. Really been looking forward to this one, even if I have the P3:FES. Not really happy about waiting till July but there's enough coming out to keep me busy in the meantime.
As for not controlling the character on the map, I'm thinking that will actually be rather nice.
There was no real world map in Person 3. They cut out the 3D versions of certain zones to trim out some excess fat. They were pretty small zones anyway and being forced to navigate through each of them kinda got annoying.
The first Phantasy Star Portable game had a similar interface to what Persona 3 Portable is using, Its essentially the same areas you've been to before, just 2D menu-driven images replacing them. That and social link scenes also take on 2D backdrops.
It might lose a little atmosphere from the game, but it also allowed them to cram in a eection of optional dungeons. Basically, they're the dungeons from The Answer repurposed. They apparently didn't have room to have a male and female path and then The Answer's story.
Not that The Answer was really anything to write home about, Persona 4 spells out half of that mystery within its own story, but nothing directly relevant to the character of Persona 3.
OH DEAR LORDS THAT IS A LONG TIME
Still, it's nice to hear a localized release date; Persona 3 is still pretty much amazing, and the concept of adding P4's gameplay mechanics into it and allowing me to work on my Social Links on the bus is just pretty amazing.
W-wait, you mean I'll actually be able to control my party members now? AWESOME.
No seriously, this means I won't have to pray that Mitsuru will heal me this turn because I only have 95 health and I'm poisoned instead of doing some stupid shit like casting an ice spell on a goddamn ice-affiliated shadow. I loved Persona 3, but the reason Persona 4 will always be infinitely greater is just because of P3's broken battle mechanics.
They're not getting my money. P3's story only makes sense with a Male protagonist, to switch to a girl ruins the meaning of the story completely and utterly. Have fun funding the ruination of one of the best game plots in years.
@Gen Eric Gui
I wouldn't say so. As long as you're willing to accept that similar changes need to be made to the plot of The Answer, then can be retconned into making sense.
I agree with Gen Eric when it comes to the story. That's not going to stop me from getting it for all the added stuff in the male storyline, though. Plus, it's P3 WHEREVER I FUCKING GO. I can't say no to that. :D
@leox001
Really? I was told it wasn't going to have the FES content...
The protagonist being female does not change the meaning of the ending of the game at all. That is, unless you're sexist and thing he could do something she couldn't.
MegaTen is a multiverse anyway. That means all endings are canon endings.

Just throw a doll in the main character's room that looks like Teddie. That's all I ask.
...well, that and a long sidequest detailing the origins of Funky Student. But that's not happening.

Alot of money for us PALlies to get this.
Should be worth it though.

Oh well. I'll import it anyway just to say I bought it, I love the series so much.
