Persona 3 delayed, Jack melts [UPDATE] photo
     Elitist Appeal

Mr. Crecente's Neighborhood has word that the latest iteration in Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei series, Persona 3, has been delayed only a day before it was scheduled to ship. The delay has been pinned on an error in the manufacturing of the art book that was scheduled to ship with the title and Atlus has yet to reveal a new ship date.

This wouldn't pain me so much if I didn't have a little bird whispering to me every ten minutes about how awesome the game is. I've spent the last week imagining a title that combines the greatest parts of Final Fantasy XII, Harvest Moon, Versus and Raquel Welch circa 1966, and while Persona 3 might never live up to the insane expectations that have been implanted in my head, it's almost guaranteed to be more enjoyable than a reality in which I can't tame ethereal beings to murder on my behalf.

I picked a bad week to quit practicing Wicca ...

[Update: According to a press release sent out by Atlus earlier today, the new ship date is August 14th, 2007. Hit the jump for the full release.]

The new scheduled ship date for Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 is August 14th, 2007.

This is the very soonest that manufacturing of the Persona 3 art book can be completed, and also takes into account the time required for assembly of the final package.

The manufacturing issue with the art book was brought to our attention mere days prior to the initial ship date, and was a scenario both unforeseen and beyond our control.  Our disappointment and frustration is tempered by the knowledge that the final product will live up to our standard of quality and also the expectations of our fans.

While many are willing to sacrifice the art book in favor of the game alone, the package we have spent the last few months designing, one intended to honor the series and reward fans for an eight year wait, would be irreparably compromised if we were to revise or abandon the deluxe package.  Without the art book, the outer box would lack the structural integrity to endure shipping; all extras would need to be discarded.  Again, this deluxe set was created for the fans of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, and we are determined to see the special release through to the end.

We apologize for the delay, and we ask for your understanding and patience.

Rachel Welch in 1966... if only she also starred in Persona?
Now I'm interested to see how Versus and Harvest Moon could mix though! Must... see...

From Wiki:

On April 19, 2007, Atlus released an add-on disk for Persona 3 called Persona 3: Fes (ペルソナ3フェス, Perusona 3 Fesu?). A "directors cut" version, which includes both Persona 3 and Persona 3: Fes, was released on the same date. "Fes" is said to come from the word "festival." Fes claims to add another 30 hours of gameplay to the Persona 3 game. It includes a chapter after defeating the main boss, called the Aegis chapter. Unfortunately, the U.S. will not receive the Fes Append disc with the Persona 3 as stated in a recent Atlus USA press release of the game although they have not ruled out that Fes may come to the states at a later date.

I'm even more disappointed now.

I was aware that this game was coming, but I hadn't been following it very closely and didn't know it was already about to be released. *goes off and pre-orders it*

As an aside, I wish they'd brought Innocent Sin over here, considering they brought Eternal Punishment. It's like only playing the second half of a two part game. Actually, it's not like that, it is that.

@Ravenholm

No. It was not.

That sucks ass! I was really looking forward to playing Persona 3. I still have it preordered but dammit. I guess I'll just have more time to play Guitar Hero 80's.

My only problem with buying this game is that by the time I beat this, Blue dragon will have come out and I might be RPG'D-OUT and pass on BD until a later date...and how exactly do you pass on blue dragon despite knowing P3 will probably be a better game?

I had never been aware of this series untill I heard the guys on a 1up podcast talk about it when they described it as a dating releationship sim/dungeon crawler rpg that (in the japanese version at least) you have to shoot yourself in the head to summon your persona and fight, it was then I knew I must at least check it out.

lolz @ ArrestedDeveloper

you summed up almost my exact same thought process - "the guy shoots himself in the head to get into combat? sign me up!"

and i was worried that they might take it out of the US version too, but i believe they kept it. suicide ftw!
