Persona 2: Innocent Sin gets the fan treatment photo

I'm not going to lie: I have mad love for Atlus' Persona series of videogames. No other series gives you classic RPG goodness with a modern twist, combined with the most insane storylines and messed up characters. It's briliantly f*cked up, and I hope it never ever ends.

The series has always had a shaky history, though. I remember some raised concerns when the original Persona title was released. Some were up in arms about the religious overtones and demonic references. We eventually saw a localized version, though several changes were made in the process. We eventually got Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, but its sister game, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, never saw the light of day outside Japan. This may have had something to do with the game's subject matter. I guess they thought that America wasn't ready for Hitler and homosexuality in their RPGs.

Now, with the success of the PS2's Persona 3, and the upcoming Persona 3: FES and even Persona 4, it seems that people are beginning to seek out earlier series titles. Our very own GoldenDonut is on the case, and he tells us that a fan translation for Innocent Sin is in the works. Gemini is working on it as we speak, and although there is no game patch as of yet, we'll remain hopeful for the future. Word is that we might get a nice Christmas gift. Some of you may need to ask Santa for a modded PS1 as well.

Come on, Gemini. We're rooting for you.

Hit the jump to watch the Innocent Sin introduction.

Qwerty: Basically. The 2 games that came to America before were booooooooring. I only played P3 for a short while but I found it lacking in all the typical areas that Atlus games are lacking in. The Shin Megami Tensei series isn't much better really, It's boring and difficult. It'd be nice if they hired some real writers and made a coherent storyline once in awhile. That'd be nice.

Please don't get FOXed please don't get FOXed please don't get FOXed *repeat a billion times*

Unless, of course, it's because Atlus is actually planning to finally bring IS over here legit, then I wouldn't mind so much if this got FOXed, but that's the only way I wouldn't mind it.

@qwerty

Yeah, I've played every currently released game in the Persona series so far, minus Innocent Sin of course. Also, I think the word you're looking for is "clique," just fyi. And no, I don't think of myself as part of any clique just because I like Persona. Also, frozenbabylon is perfectly entitled to his opinion, even though it's utterly wrong, of course.

I was so happy when I got Persona 2 and then finding out it was the gimped version.

Course I never got that far into it and thus far, Nocture was the only game of the tensei line that I've enjoyed so who knows if I would like it anyway.

Modded PS1 or... any PSP with a software hacked custom firmware?

@ loginsucks2

At first I assumed it would run on a modded PSP but Gemini states in the FAQ section that the game crashes during battles. I have no idea why it doesn't work but at the moment it just doesn't.

@TheGoldenDonut

It seems to be a problem with the PSP's emulation. Even Eternal Punishment doesn't work. Persona 1 seems to work fine though.

I might look into this if a patch is coming out. I'm still waiting on the patch for Tales of Phantasia, which should be out this summer.

Definitely cool. Necros, really? I didn't know the Tales of Phantasia translation was that far along. I thought they still had a lot of revision and programming to do.

I'm dying for the finished fan translations of Mother 3 and Policenauts!

Actually, there is already a patch for ToP Psx: mine. :P Or to say it better, the one I released under the Absolute Zero label, which I won't use for Innocent Sin (still looking for a cool name xD).
