Perpetual shifts focus, Gods and Heroes axed, cats and dogs living together, etc photo

Perpetual Entertainment, the people behind the (formerly) upcoming Gods and Heroes and (still upcoming) Star Trek Online have apparently shifted the focus of their efforts entirely towards the Roddenberry universe. According to this update on the G&H home page:

... Recently, we took a step back to evaluate the competitive landscape, the game's current state, and the overall goals for our organization. And while we are truly proud of and pleased with what we have created in Gods & Heroes, we also realize that achieving the level of quality and polish that we are committed to will take a significant investment.

... Moving forward, we're shifting our collective focus, resources and development efforts to Perpetual's Platform Services division and Star Trek Online, thereby ensuring that the game lives up to the high level of expectation set by the dedicated Star Trek fan base.

Obviously this isn't a huge shock after Perpetual's recent "restructuring" that shed 30-40 employees, but from what we've seen of the game, it is sort of surprising that they'd axe it after all the effort already in place. Then again, there's a school of thought that thinks the MMO space is rapidly approaching over-saturation, and taking on the development of two of these massive games at once would tax any company, let alone one not literally made of gold ingots and origami hundred dollar bills shaped into friendly, helpful swans.

So, is it a monopoly if you scare most of your competition out of releasing their games or sticking to a release date?

WoW's got Boardwalk and Park Place, imo. With hotels. And they'll trade you the lectric company for a McGriddle . . .

Damn thats very weird, I was actually looking forward to trying this game out. I bet the squad based AI system was the downfall. With to many people gathered with 10 AI NPCs in one spot, server crash. Oh well, don't see why they couldn't figure out a way around it.

just sell the half baked game to NC soft so they can three quarter bake it, then sell it.

There is no need for any new MMO that is not a zombie MMO.
